CiP MfFi questions

So I'm rather new to Crawl, and normally I depend upon the wiki to get a feel for things, but apparently that is down for me. SO I was hoping that the wisdom of all you guys could help me out. It would probably be more useful than the wiki anyway.

As to my character specifics, I have a major focus on heavy armor and melee with virtually nothing in magic and ranged. I have a wand of paralysis, slow, and 2 of confuse, all of which I use with harder enemies to stun and pick off with polearm range, as well as a wand of draining and random effects. I have boosted str and dex from rings, and am at level 2 piety with Makhleb.

What should I be aiming for as a polearm? Currently I have a +1+1 halberd and a +0-3(bad corrosion)trident that I can wield with a shield (which I also already have a few points in). I'm not sure what the better polearms actually are as this is my first attempt focusing on them, and with that 'm not sure if I should ditch the shield for 2 hands.

I also love mutations (I generally play as a demonspawn) and just acquired some mutagenic meat. I also have an amulet of resist mutation. I'm not sure what combos of wearing/eating result in what split of good/bad mutations, but as long is it is at least 50/50 I'd like to give it a go. But perhaps that is a bad idea. Some advice on that would be great.

I've only ever so far made it to D:14, and right now this MfFi is at D:9 and level 10, so I feel like this guy could be my best character yet if I can be really careful with what I do. All feedback is greatly appreciated! (Also, let me know if this is the wrong section to post this to. The rules on the advice section seemed to suggest it wasn't for this kind of situation and pointed me here)

Re: CiP MfFi questions

You could post your character files in morgue to give a overall lookout of your character.

Knowledge bot says about resist mutation:
  Code:
Comes in amulet form, mutation itself (3 levels) and Zin. Provides at most 90% protection from mutations except Zin, who provides mutation immunity at max piety. Has a 50% chance to stop mutations from magical contamination.
So wearing the amulet would make you eating mutagenic meat fairly useless. Eating mutagenic meat isn't a behavior generally encouraged.

For polearm, forget about that trident. Just go for halberd. Two handers has more dmg, which makes you kill things faster and take less dmg. With Oka you would eventually get a bardiche, but with Makhleb you would stick with halberd until the game decides to make you a nice bardiche.

Re: CiP MfFi questions

Well, I couldn't help myself and ate the meat anyway, though forgetting to remove the amulet, got only one mutation of heat resistance, so that was a good go :)

Re: CiP MfFi questions

For morgue files, please put it in "code forms" (you can find the format on top of the blank space when you write a post.

Anyway, I mistook Mf as a minotaur. I thought Mf generally go for lighter armor? The race has -3 aptitude on armor, you know.

Re: CiP MfFi questions

Thanks! I didn't realize the armor aptitude either. Too bad this character has turned in to YASD :( I got to a labyrinth and thought I would have an easier time with the minotaur, and then an orc zombie also popped up. However, now I learned some good stuff for next time.

Return to YASD! YAVP! and characters in progress too
