YASD - lvl 21 TrHe, died in a zig

Why in a zig? Looking for rPois, clarity, rMut, and Cure Mutation, of course. No rPois or rMut all game even though I cleared 65 total levels (including the entire main dungeon), and 1 cure mutation. If Jivya would have had an altar in the main dungeon, I would have switched. Guess Zin was an option too, but I really wanted to go all the way with Ely.

This guy was the ultimate glass cannon - two-shotted almost anything but had 7 AC 10 EV most of the time. Trolls and Ogres actually got hurt pretty badly by the EV character nerfs (stuck with a +2 robe and no more AC/EV from randarts). TrHe is pretty strong - I think you're basically guaranteed to clear the lair and if rPois actually exists in your game, Swamp and Snake are easy clears (Shoals is a deathtrap, though).

I had 1 good randart that was basically a ring of slaying in amulet form and nothing else - never even found a robe of rF or rC OR a branded cap of any kind. About the worst set of item drops I've ever seen in a game, and trolls really need at least 1 decent randart to cover their missing slots.

I've never even seen the inside of a ziggurat - what are they all about? And why is there a cover charge?

They're about absurd loot but even more absurd monsters, essentially. It can often be pretty lucrative to do a few floors if you find one in the dungeon (once you have some good panic buttons, and ideally a source self-banishment), although if you intend on clearing one you need to be very powerful and not afraid to die messily. Or to know Tornado.

Thanks for the report! Tell us more about the ziggurat: were the first levels okay, did you get any decent loot?

Have you been using those rocks? Your Throwing was only at 5.

Did you ever pray? Does weapon destruction in the ziggurat yield piety?

It is true that the enchantment cap on armours hurts ogres and trolls (then again, those can use rocks). What about having a special rule for trolls and troll leathers (like centaurs or nagas and their bardings)?

And then likewise what, animal skins for Ogres? (would actually give animal skins a reason for existing?)

Zig: 1-5 I cruised through, 6-8 were tougher and I probably should have bailed around there. Loot was good, just not what I needed. I found Clarity and Confusing Touch but not rMut or rPois. I did get some piety from destroying randart weapons.

Prayer: I used it a couple of times when running away / waiting for a teleport to kick in. Got saved once (and also had another random lifesaving early in the game when not praying).

Large Rocks: I mainly used them for killing runaways. Normally I use them quite a bit with ogres/trolls, but with this guy I just used UC, and the berserk/purification combo. If I needed to deal with something at range, I usually just tried to pacify it.

For ogres and trolls, I like the idea (on the wiki in a couple of places) that ogres and trolls can wear hides (all hides, from animal skin to gold dragon) in the cloak slot. I'll write up a little proposal and post it to the forum/wiki in the next couple of days.
