CiP - GhNe of Kiku - Weapon, armour, rune dilemmas

First, weapon choice:

  Code:
a +7 quarterstaff of pain (weapon)
a +2 vampiric lajatang

Kiku pain branded a quarterstaff for me, and I was very satisfied, until I met Agnes, who dropped her lajatang, and... holy shit, vampiric. However, that also means I have to give up the blowgun and the curare needles, and that is a real loss.

Armour:

  Code:
a +2 robe of magic resistance (worn)
the +5 ring mail of the Shining Light {rPois}

My AC and EV are better in the ring mail (24 and 17, vs in robe they're 16 and 21). However, magic resistance! The Vaults are next, and being marked is hell down there, plus there are liches and whatnot.

The third rune:
I have torment immunity, Kiku gives prot from death curses. Is this the time to try the golden rune (in the Tomb) for the third rune? This still sounds a bit wild.

mummie priest and greater can smite u, does double dmg vs ghoul?!

i dont know i wouldnt do tomb with this character.. there are no bodies at all, enemies are torment immune. ull have to kill every single mummie with dispel undead. the protection from death curses helps if u have a big nuke to take out several of them at once

why not go for slime? summon corpses next to RJ, pray for torment, kill him, run? ur weapons are also not well suited for tomb

No you don't. Undead get vamp for free.

You're supposed to run when marked, and should always have a clear way to stairs in vaults. That said, MR+ is worth more than 4 points of AC+EV IMO.

The third rune:

Sure, if you want. Just don't forget meat. And remember that 0.15 tomb also has some liches, revenants and unborn(s?).
However, with vamp tang vaults and slime may be safer.

Smiting is elementless and ignores all resistances except for things that generically reduce all damage (being petrified, being in shadow form, being a deep dwarf), so no, it doesn't hit undead harder

Kiku makes a really easy tomb as third rune, as long as you have a solution for taking down greater mummies in the first place. (Note: Dispel Undead + stairdancing is such a solution. Although your dispel undead spell power is kind of awful, so maybe pump necro more + find a staff of death?)

Well, died on Vaults:2. It really was hell, and even sentinels weren't needed for that: convokers and wardens did all the good work. I survived more close calls on those 2 floors than the rest of the game before... what finished me, however, was a player ghost with bolt of cold and orb of destruction.

The vamp lajatang was seriously underwhelming, it seemed worse (much worse) than the pain qstaff. I don't know why.

maybe its language barrier, or maybe u dont know !? that vamp weapon doesnt do extra dmg, and pain is one of the highest dmg adds. so it is not surprising for me.

Vamp doesn't add extra damage, but heals you. It is the best brand in the game if it is on a weapon with good base damage, assuming you aren't already past all the parts of the game that have a decent population of living non-demonic creatures.

I know all this. The fact that surprised me is that the vamp lajatang wasn't getting me enough life back in fights, I was losing tons of HP in nearly all fights, even against popcorn monsters like spiders. The pain qstaff was much better.

The Vaults was also a terrible place to experiment with equipment, I should have kept the combination that worked. Well, next time.
