What a marathon. I feel like I've just won the Le Mans 24 hours single handed. Or free climbed the Burj Khalifa. Or bounced up Mt Kilimanjaro on a pogo stick.
Before I say anything else, let me thank those who gave me sound advice, especially PsiEye, rchandra and adozu - I would definitely have died without your help, dudes.
My previous PB in terms of runes was a 6-runer MiFi that I had to ascend early with due to a lack of mutation resistance. I'd never been to the Tomb before, and only once to the Hells or Pandemonium (where I splatted on both occasions). The character started off as a throwaway - I never for a minute thought I'd get anywhere near as far as I did. When I hit 4 runes and realised I may just be able to have a go at the extended game, I approached the abyss with some trepidation and thought, what the hell, let's go for it. To cut a long story short, I found that as long as you have haste, controlled blink and BR online, and remember the best form of torment resistance is either getting out of LOS or hacking the torment source to bits quickly, you're pretty much safe in the extended game (especially with nigh on 300HP). Being a scaredy-cat helps a lot as well.
Some memorable moments:
1) Going into Cerebov's level and finding myself next to the fiery rune and a Brimstone fiend in a 2x2 square room. I just took out the fiend, grabbed the rune and cTele'd the hell out of there.
2) Getting paralysed and surrounded by sphynxes at the start of the tomb (thought my MR was high enough). Fortunately, I'd lured them far enough away from anything that could really hurt me. Funnily enough, the rest of the tomb wasn't too bad (even the bottom level), but I guess this was mainly down to being a Kiku worshipper.
3) Getting together an army of ice dragon zombies (thanks Kiku) and surrounding Antaeus on his peninsula. Easiest boss fight.
4) Not ever finding a ring of sustain abilities in the whole game - I had to farm Pan a couple of times to get some restore ability potions, which got a bit scary on occasions.
5) Taking out Ereshkigal with the help of an army of shadow dragon zombies (again, thanks Kiku). Sweet revenge for my MiFi that went down to you, bee-ach. I thought she was supposed to generate with a shedload of shadow fiends - I could only count 2 plus an ice fiend.
