Trunk has a new recall mechanic for Beogh and Yred, who give you perma-allies that use stairs. In exchange for "slow motion" recall (not everyone shows up on the same turn), you can now recall dudes who are on other levels. This used to be a great issue with Beogh/Yred - when you have a HUGE army, your dudes can't follow you if the staircase architecture was cramped. You also had to camp and wait for your allies to aggregate into a ball before taking stairs and I swear sometimes they'd just disappear if I 'parked' them off-level for too long. Now I don't have to worry about my followers getting lost.

Furthermore, orc goons no longer have to last-hit to get EXP now. This used to be another big issue, as puny HD 1 orcs aren't going to reliably get the last hit in (nevermind survive) on a big EXP mob. Now your goons get some (free, I think? As in, it doesn't leech your EXP income?) EXP when you kill stuff. All of my handful of followers are at least Tier 2 now and of course, they have decent gear as all the stuff that I'd reject (because crap or not relevant to my skills) are useful to them.

Thank you Psi!

What browser do you use? I always have trouble with perma allies because the key to let them choose their own gear opens up a new tab in chrome...

Wow these are awesome changes. I never liked Beogh and Yred because of those frustrations.

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar!

FANNARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Maybe I should have killed him solo instead of luring him out into the open where my orcs could surround him. My army had an unexpected Survival Of The Fittest check, and some of my goons that did Lair together with me failed the test. A great funeral was had for the mass of dead goons. I then wield-ID'd the randart trident that my goon helpfully identified as uncursed (and not disto) for me:
  Code:
 M - the trident of Beogh's Favour (weapon) {antimagic, rElec MR}

This weapon. I will carry it in my inventory when I win.

Surprising how little Transloc I needed to get the bare basics online while in plate.

Nikola showed up on D:15 - the first time, I shut the door in his face and teleported out, then recalled everyone to my side. Not sure if Nikola would have cast as I was off-screen. The second time? SCROLL OF SILENCE while my dudes are warping in slowly! He didn't last long.

Centaur packs getting gunned down by my army is hilarious to watch. Every orc has some kind of ranged weapon, medium or heavy armour and a solid melee weapon. Mook orcs still die fast, especially to gas traps. It's also neat that Beogh auto-decurses anything my orcs pick up.

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar! (sorta-new Beogh)

Beogh looks awesome!

Noob question: I've looked around and can't find info on how to tell my minions to equip items... I assume it's in the ctrl+t menu? Obviously I'm missing something, if one of the experienced players could spare a few moments to explain how this works, I'd appreciate it. Or tell me where to post this query.

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar! (sorta-new Beogh)

Ctrl-t does set your allies' pickup behavior. I think the setting is reset each time you visit a new level, though. Beyond that, you can't really influence their decisions.

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar! (sorta-new Beogh)

Psieye, if your goal was to get me to want to play a HOPr, you've pretty much done it. The new changes to god-recall sounds great. Is spell recall also affected? On my MuWz (before they nerfed off-screen kills), it was summon, t,w to let them go have fun and wander around myself in a different direction. Then if I ran into trouble, "Hey, the gangs all here!"

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar! (sorta-new Beogh)

I know the feeling, my Kiku worshippers who got Twisted Resurrection and Recall pretty much had an 8d40 damage 'nuke' if my Aboms got a full surround on insta-recall. I've yet to try casting recall the spell in latest trunk.

Of further note: most minions can't change their equipment. Beogh goons can. Undead can't. Summoned units can't. Mercenaries (from a card deck) can.

Yred gifts you some allies who will use equipment. Ghouls wear armour and use weapons, and skeletal warriors will change weapons. Probably some other things too (wights will probably change weapons but you don't care since they die so easily, etc.)

Met Khufu in Crypt:3. That went bad for me - I did the stupid thing of blinking when I was in a corridor and my army was behind me. I got sandwiched by a skeleton warrior and a greater mummy with no safe way out. Chugged all my heal wounds potions while I waited for my warlord to kill that skeleton warrior, then read a fog scroll and ran away by foot. Normally a blink scroll would solve this kind of snafu very easily but having an army means you can't always rely on transloc to get away.

Margery showed up in Vaults. I ran away, my army kept fighting. I took a peek, saw one of my warlords was getting low in HP and so hit recall while running away again - I saved his life. Margery's band all died by the time I came back.

Invaded Vestibule successfully on first try. Geryon didn't get to do anything meaningful, especially once I curare'd him. A random hell knight with a disto D.Trident sent me to the corner of the floor... where Murray was. Discovered that you can spam Smite a lot and still stay at 6* if you've never been smiting things thus far - I must smite more often yes. Anyway, my army faithfully recalled to my position and took care of business. We had to rest a long time afterwards though to get over the torment. Not sure if I should farm hell or not - I could leave behind my army and go solo to minimise risk to them but that feels wrong.

Axiom: don't attack potential recruits with a poison axe. Orc Knight cried "You must be our saviour, I see it now!" and then keeled over to poison the very same turn. Mind you, if that orc got a kill in, he would have been cleansed of poison through Beogh's "holy balms".

Most characters have to exercise a degree of caution when the floor god gives you a completely open layout with minimal cover. For a HOPr, that just upgrades fights into BATTLES:
Image

Incidentally, Orc Sorcerers can cast Animate Dead but kills by zombies don't please Beogh. However, Orc High Priests cast Summon Demon and kill by them DO please Beogh.

Oh and why is my notes section getting spammed by false "Your Ally [named orc] died" messages?

Re: HOPr - orcs hate Fannar! (sorta-new Beogh)

Do you mean Yred's allies keep fighting when you are not in their LOS? I thought there was a change to nerf summons and summons don't fight a monster unless both you and the target is in their LOS. Or is it applied to actual summons (from Summoning Magic) only?

Animated skeletons also continue to fight outside of LOS so I'd guess the same applies to all permanent allies.

New Recall basically means you always are the vanguard and you can't summon reinforcements immediately to insta-kill everything in sight. Means you have to think, which is good. This YASD was because I wasn't paying attention - a tormentor and a hellion came in sight, side by side and I didn't immediately retreat. The tormentor spammed torment 3 times consecutively and the hellion did its job of finishing me off with smite-targetting. By the time I had noticed the duo, my retreat path had been cut off by a flying skull getting in the way. Ordinarily this level of inattention wouldn't kill me off because blink scrolls. But as noted before, can't rely on that. HOPr is a good opportunity to fix that bad habit of relying on cBlink to get away from everything.

This brings up the topic of whether cTele (the effect, not just the spell) should be removed to force players to be more cautious. Personally, I feel cBlink and scBlink is the reason why cTele is problematic. If cTele could only deal with full-on teleports and not blinks, I think it would be more 'balanced'. I'm going to make a GDD thread on this.

Re: YASD HOPr - Inattention is fatal (sorta-new Beogh)

I had an allied orc wizard confuse me twice when targetting an enemy on the other side of me yesterday, and today an allied orc knight shot me in the back with an arrow of frost and destroyed a few potions. I also had an orc throw an exploding dart that caught me and some allies in the explosion, but somehow that seems forgivable.

Are allies supposed to attack through the player to get to enemies? All these were in trunk on CSZO.

ctrl-X will list allies in sight (and other things), I'm not sure if there's something more appropriate.
