YAVP: Belkar Gets His Revenge
Trog only gifted me one melee weapon I used much (a mid-game scimitar) but once I pried a demon blade of electrocution from Mara's cold dead hands, that was my weapon of mass destruction. The blue sling was a fantastic gift, however, and I had fun plinking Dracs in Zot with it.
Carefully went through Zot, and did a lot of dive in - draw out - kill in Zot:5 until I finally decided to go for broke. Got to the orb chamber, berserked, and wasted 10 guardians. Of course, there was still a guardian left when my berserk went out. I called two of Trog's brothers in arms and then hit the wand of teleport. First teleport put me next to a killer klown, two guardians and a lich with about 40 HPs left. Second port kicked in and put me in the half I had just cleared, so I was able to retreat, go back up to Zot:4, rest, then dive back in. Only one guardian was left in the chamber, so I grabbed the orb, then abused the hell out of my control teleport mutation to get out of dodge. Saw Thoh around D:8 on my way back up but blinked away from him, and even killed a player ghost in D:4 that had the misfortune of being next to a staircase.
Two rings of slaying plus the randart armour with the damage bonii gave me +11 when fully loaded-out, which was outstanding. Still had tons of gold and didn't have many (good) shops to spend it all on - the treasure trove I found needed seven levitation potions and a distillery shop never generated, so I never raided it.
Have played several of the diminuitive berserkers now but this was the most fun - I didn't get bored at all through the game.
I know I've said it before, but *now* I think I'm ready to tackle the 15-runer. I've now won four ways - melee (HaBe), conjurator (NaWz), necro (DSNe) and then the 'challenge' (OgCK), all three runes.. now it's time to spread my wings and fly, so to speak.
