You could see 6 fire vortices and Lorenzo's ghost.

Between perfectly castable Fire Storm, Summon Dragon and Controlled Blink, the game had become incredibly easy. Zot:5 was a breeze until I encountered my previous player ghost. I've been trying to train a DEWz and I just lost my most recent one to MYSELF. My last DEWz that died on Zot:5 made a ghost and it was easily the most challenging and inescapable enemy I've ever faced. Pan/Hell Lords? lol, pushovers. Not only was I getting Fire Storm'd into oblivion (with rF+++ I was still losing roughly 1/3 of my health per hit) but even breaking line of sight was impossible because once I was out of sight, it would dig and I'd be right in harms way again. This game does a good job of being difficult, but I have never felt so helpless and at the game's mercy in my 7 months of playing. Zot:5 was the worst place to encounter myself because of CTele. This loss was so aggravating that I have to take a break from this game. Ugh

I had such a badass shield too. =(

Re: YASD: DEWz (My own worst enemy...)

Consider removing all ghosts if you play locally, it is not cheating (http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Cheating#Se ... bone_files):

  Code:
If you always delete all bones files including ones you would be glad to find, this is not cheating as it is the equivalent of playing every game on a fresh install.

I always do it after playing several DECj in a row. Having a ghost with Mephitic Cloud at Lair 1 changes game too much.

Re: YASD: DEWz (My own worst enemy...)

Clearly you needed to run away from Zot:5, hit extended for EXP and feed it all into Necromancy. Then come back with Death's Door and laugh.

The alternative would have been to somehow get 60+ AC on top of rF+++ and have a brawl with it. I once took exactly 1 damage from Cerebov's fire storm.

As far as I know it's possible to get 1 hp from Fire Storm without rF and with AC 7, 8d16 is 8-128.

Thats the thing. I tried to run after getting hit with the first Fire Storm but thanks to dig my ghost was inescapable. My only hope would have been to use a teleport scroll right away and quaff heal wounds til it kicked in and just pray it doesnt put me in the Orb chamber.

You had cBlink. It still lets you semi-controlled blink in -cTele areas.

Re: YASD: DEWz (My own worst enemy...)

It means you pick a direction, then it'll blink you somewhere in that direction (~10 tiles, or so). Most of the time, anyway. I tried semi-controlled blinking in elf:3 once and i'd occasionally go the exact opposite direction of where i wants to go.
Cheers, luv! The CeFi's here!

Wins: MiFi of Qaz (6 runes)

It is exactly the behaviour you get when you have cTele (by ring or spell) and ordinary blink.

(I know you know that, Psi, but wanted to clarify for others.)

Aye, it was careless wording on my part.

Oh, I see. Honestly, I don't think that would have saved me. I managed to escape his line of sight many times, but he always knew exactly where I was and would dig right to me. It was like a horror movie where the protagonist is being chased by some silent, stalking creature and as soon as you lock the door behind you, the creature just appears in the room you entered.

Re: YASD: DEWz (My own worst enemy...)

Must have been an unusually convoluted situation if you couldn't cBlink and Haste your way to a staircase to get away from a player-ghost, regardless of Dig.

Oh and welcome to the stealth game. Monsters just magically know where you currently are if they pass a perception check against your stealth. They have to re-roll each time they reach where you WERE and you're still not in sight.

Re: YASD: DEWz (My own worst enemy...)

Would CBlinking out of his LOS given me a better chance of him not "Dig finding" me as opposed to simply walking out of his line of sight?

If you keep blinking, he shouldn't be able to keep up with you. Even if he digs, he still has to walk to get within 8 squares of you before he can hurt you.

Do note that you'll be glowing like a torch by the end of it. Much better than dieing, but not recommended unless necessary.
