And here's a funny screenshot:

I only needed 4 to 5 oklobs per room of the inner chamber; that picture above was as unnecessary as it was funny. You also get the ability to make it rain, which can create deep water...so a Merfolk was perfect, since I can swim through the water I create. I ended up never once using the sunlight ability he gives, though. Pumped invocations for stronger plants, and stealth went from 5 to 22 at the last minute, lol.

Fedhas is surprisingly very effective. I expected less of a "fruit god," honestly. The concept doesn't exactly sound powerful, but my notions were dead wrong. Even on low fruit, he really helps in the early to mid game, and late-game, oklobs really help clear tough floors. The plant allies rocked, and so did creating water, but oklobs are especially powerful. 5 could slowly pelt an orb of fire to death, and I would've had fruit to spare if I didn't waste 'em. I always had some kind of strong tactical option, and a Merfolk Ice Elementalist is a powerful combo on its own. I never got a source of MP channeling (Fedhas doesn't like you casting Sublimation of Blood, either), or much in the way of spells I wanted, but it was still fairly easy. Just had to take my time in some areas.

Fedhas is so great, tactically. You can put space between you and the monsters, shoot behind the safety of water or plants, use polearms to similar effect, and reliably confuse poison-susceptible foes even more reliably than Mephitic Cloud can, or at least it seemed that way in my experience. Everything without poison resistance seems to falter to spores. Wandering mushrooms make the early game easy, serving as beefy bodyguards. Mushrooms kinda wane in effectiveness later, but spores and ballistomycetes remain relatively good against certain late-game foes. If you're reading this, and you're like I was, thinking Fedhas would be lame, I say definitely give him a try. If you need to, use scrolls of acquirement to get fruit; you always get fruit instead of random food, if you worship Fedhas and read an acquirement scroll. I'd get 10 to 15 pieces of fruit on average.

Re: YAVP: MfIE of Fedhas, 3 runes

Fedhas is the one god I haven't tried yet, both due to not knowing how to apply him to a character and thinking that he's very underpowered.
Clearly he's not UP, and I guess a merfolk would be optimal. I'll have to give him a try.

Another Mf of Fedhas YAVP in case you're not fully convinced yet.

Re: YAVP: MfIE of Fedhas, 3 runes

Fedhas is one of the best gods early on. Mushrooms render any enemy they hit useless (confused) and they deal a ton of damage too - all as a permanent ally for very little piety.
Late on, oklobs are still pretty useful (they'll kill all of Zot:5) but you can only use a limited number, and they're immobile. Basically Fedhas is excellent during the early stages of the game, which are the most difficult, and weaker as it progresses, with another spike in power right at the end if you saved some fruit.

Not underpowered at all, but more importantly,

SUPER FUN GOD.

For a 3-runer, he's definitely not UP. The only risk you run is not getting enough fruit, but you can blow acquirement scrolls on them if need be, which I found pretty worth it; 10-15 oranges can be enough to clear a branch end, if used wisely. Fedhas is kinda like Nemelex in needing more active management and adjusting your playstyle around him, but if you use his abilities well, you can get great effect out of them. He's just less suited to the postgame, due to lack of corpses.

That thread helped inspire my choices for this run, as a matter of fact. I also saw another one where somebody spawned a whole bunch of oklobs and took down a hell lord that way.

Pretty much. Even so, during the "weaker" phase, I still found the abilities pretty useful. I always carried enough fruit for emergency oklobs, which helped ease the tension of the run, and water on demand was always handy, even if only for an EV boost.

Totally. That was my funnest run yet.

Return to YASD! YAVP! and characters in progress too
