TeGl: Need advice on building my character

I was planning on going Ranged and building my character by pumping strength, etc. Then I found this very nice ring: the ring "Twemit Edwom" (left hand) {Wiz rElec rPois rF+ Str+4 SInv}

The ring is very tempting to switch to Conjurations and play Reaver style, but is it worth it?

Hmm, to me that's more an invitation for you to learn charms sooner rather than later. Don't rush to conjurations, though maybe getting meph might be useful. Do not let your melee skills fall too far behind because you got distracted with some magic training. Maybe by the time you're at D:17 and have a glaive/halberd at good delay is an appropriate time to think about having conjurations for the purpose of dealing damage.

Thank you for the correction.

Well, what I was planning on doing was get a blessed Bardiche and use a Vorpal Crossbow to use penetration bolts to pierce through stuff.

Does seem like getting Charms is a viable option at the least, but training all the other stuff seems like a pain if I include Charms.

Well, put it this way: Wiz only helps with spell success, it doesn't help with spell power and spell hunger - these latter two depend greatly on Int. You could get conjurations online but they'd be weak and make you hungry fast, which in turn translates to less corpses sacrificed. Now Okawaru wants quality over quantity so that's not as much an issue but still, you wouldn't get much benefit out of conjurations in exchange for jeopardising your (solid) endgame plan by dying from "did not have enough killing power by this point in the game".

Charms on the other hand, are cast infrequently (compared to conjurations) and it doesn't matter too much if the duration is low as the fight should be over soon. Translocations is the other possible school you could look into. It sounds like you want to go for extended, in which case you'll eventually be swimming in EXP so you can get say, Tornado online together with your holy melee and penetration crossbow.

Actually that seems like a good and solid plan. I don't think I'll be getting charms and translocations for a while though consider my apts... Getting Tornado will seem like a great pain though.

I think I only need one last advice: is how to train my skills. How can I make good room for my spells and spellcasting?

Well, my approach would be "stop 5 levels before min delay for weapon skill" and rely on Heroism to reach there for any serious fight. That should free up the EXP you need to get some basic spells online. Charms/Transloc skill is more important than training spellcasting if you have enough slots. Dodging to 10, Armour to 10 and Fighting to 12 or so sounds about right before Heroism. Hopefully by this point, you've found some dragon armour so you get the best of both armour worlds.
