YAVP: SpBe of Jiyva with a BIG AXE
...at least BIG when compared to a spriggan's modest height.

I initially wanted to play a demon trident and buckler SpBe. I realised about ten seconds into the game that demon tridents are two-handed for spriggans, and, finding a vampiric hand axe at the same time, switched to axes because 13 base damage with cleaving (broad axe) appeals to me more than 12 base damage and lower delay with reaching (demon trident), though admittedly the demon trident might be better.
(I found cleaving quite useful. Especially in open areas, where fleeing to a corridor to fight is impossible, such as Elven Halls, Vaults:5, Lair, and surprisingly many other places, it does not only make fights quicker, but also easier. Reaching would have been great with a spriggan too, since you're fast, but I didn't want to endure that tedium.)
Anyway, I switched out from my vampiric hand axe for a jelly quite early on, only to find that I didn't have any food left to switch back to the axe. So I had to get to 6* piety with a hand axe of freezing, which was harder, but still quite easy with SpBe's great EV. The combo has an easy early game, though you can't berserk much.
I got a +1 broad axe of electrocution shortly before Lair and cleared the first levels with it, before finding a +6 broad axe of venom on the ground. It carried me easily until I received my next gift from Trog, a +9 antimagic broad axe which I used for the rest of the game.
I trained Axes to 18 first, training a bit of Dodging along with that, then focussed on Dodging until that hit 21. I followed up with 9 Traps&Doors and then raised Fighting to 15, then moved on to get 27 Axes. I don't recommend this for winning, I just wanted the title. If you want to play an axes SpBe (or any other SpBe really) I recommend getting Slings or more Fighting/Dodging instead of this much weapon skill.
By then I had cleared most of the Dungeon and Vaults with ease. The biggest problem was the spriggan forest on D:20, but it netted me a nice faerie dragon armour (mottled dragon armour with rF+ is pretty great!). The three runes were no problem either. My D:27 was grunt_profane_halls, which needs a nerf, god damnit, because tormentors, liches, bone dragons, draconians, iron golems and many other cuties make this level unbearable.
A weapon with 13 base damage and lack of slaying made Zot very hard for this character. I tried to ninja Zot:5 with two teleport scrolls, failed miserably. I ran past the whole vault and found the orb blocked by dozens of monsters/summons, and teleported out, only to land next to orbs of fire and an ancient lich. I berserked them, they had me down to 20 HP pretty quickly after that, I ran away, berserk quickly ran out, I healed, quaffed resistance, hasted, healed more, ran for the stairs. I had barely any food left and there was no way in hell I was returning without Apportation, so I converted to Jiyva, conveniently found a wand of teleportation on Slime:6, stole the orb with Apportation, Phase Shift, Haste and relative ease on my second attempt, and escaped without further difficulty.
In conclusion, axes SpBe is pretty easy, though weak by Zot, and if you want an easier SpBe win you are better off with a lajatang or quick blade and stabbing, slings and/or blowguns for the latter being optional and useful. But in my, opinion axes are the most stylish option.
Some trivia: This is the second spriggan "Axe Maniac" ever, and the top-scoring, the other being a 3-runer that took more turns.
(To explain the empty equipment slots: I had no money for a good hat, and forgot to put an amulet back on after removing the amulet of stasis I needed to cross a teleport trap.)

I initially wanted to play a demon trident and buckler SpBe. I realised about ten seconds into the game that demon tridents are two-handed for spriggans, and, finding a vampiric hand axe at the same time, switched to axes because 13 base damage with cleaving (broad axe) appeals to me more than 12 base damage and lower delay with reaching (demon trident), though admittedly the demon trident might be better.
(I found cleaving quite useful. Especially in open areas, where fleeing to a corridor to fight is impossible, such as Elven Halls, Vaults:5, Lair, and surprisingly many other places, it does not only make fights quicker, but also easier. Reaching would have been great with a spriggan too, since you're fast, but I didn't want to endure that tedium.)
Anyway, I switched out from my vampiric hand axe for a jelly quite early on, only to find that I didn't have any food left to switch back to the axe. So I had to get to 6* piety with a hand axe of freezing, which was harder, but still quite easy with SpBe's great EV. The combo has an easy early game, though you can't berserk much.
I got a +1 broad axe of electrocution shortly before Lair and cleared the first levels with it, before finding a +6 broad axe of venom on the ground. It carried me easily until I received my next gift from Trog, a +9 antimagic broad axe which I used for the rest of the game.
I trained Axes to 18 first, training a bit of Dodging along with that, then focussed on Dodging until that hit 21. I followed up with 9 Traps&Doors and then raised Fighting to 15, then moved on to get 27 Axes. I don't recommend this for winning, I just wanted the title. If you want to play an axes SpBe (or any other SpBe really) I recommend getting Slings or more Fighting/Dodging instead of this much weapon skill.
By then I had cleared most of the Dungeon and Vaults with ease. The biggest problem was the spriggan forest on D:20, but it netted me a nice faerie dragon armour (mottled dragon armour with rF+ is pretty great!). The three runes were no problem either. My D:27 was grunt_profane_halls, which needs a nerf, god damnit, because tormentors, liches, bone dragons, draconians, iron golems and many other cuties make this level unbearable.
A weapon with 13 base damage and lack of slaying made Zot very hard for this character. I tried to ninja Zot:5 with two teleport scrolls, failed miserably. I ran past the whole vault and found the orb blocked by dozens of monsters/summons, and teleported out, only to land next to orbs of fire and an ancient lich. I berserked them, they had me down to 20 HP pretty quickly after that, I ran away, berserk quickly ran out, I healed, quaffed resistance, hasted, healed more, ran for the stairs. I had barely any food left and there was no way in hell I was returning without Apportation, so I converted to Jiyva, conveniently found a wand of teleportation on Slime:6, stole the orb with Apportation, Phase Shift, Haste and relative ease on my second attempt, and escaped without further difficulty.
In conclusion, axes SpBe is pretty easy, though weak by Zot, and if you want an easier SpBe win you are better off with a lajatang or quick blade and stabbing, slings and/or blowguns for the latter being optional and useful. But in my, opinion axes are the most stylish option.
Some trivia: This is the second spriggan "Axe Maniac" ever, and the top-scoring, the other being a 3-runer that took more turns. (To explain the empty equipment slots: I had no money for a good hat, and forgot to put an amulet back on after removing the amulet of stasis I needed to cross a teleport trap.)
