Ok, so I'm fairly early, playing a Purple Draconian Conjurer, and have phenomenally found the book of tempests AND the book of annihiliations, so I ultimately have access to Shatter, Tornado, Ice Storm and Fire Storm..

I'm at 11 Ice and 8 Air magic, so the question is which one do I work towards *first*

Man the game gets really mad at you when you're doing well, Got through lair and orc, went back to Dungeon to get some more levels (at lvl 14 at the time) went down one level from the lair and fell through from level 13 to level 16, surrounded by centaurs and centaur warriors in a big open field, two steps away from an upstaircase, decided discretion was the better part of valor and fled with no hassle... directly into a big open field, surrounded by Yaks.. Um well, that's better than centaurs.

A bunch of orc warriors and orcs later attracted to the noise later, I managed to get caught up on Sp, and started hunting for an exit, summoned a bunch of ice beasts to accompany the sojourn, and picked a direction, encountered a giant and some yellow wasps, started killing them, then another Louise popped around the corner, grr, threw Mephitic Cloud at her hoping it would confuse her long enough that I could kill her without a major problem, she resists and first shot casts me into the abyss *sigh*, "very resistant" isn't good enough, although I *am* at a lower dungeon depth than my level, I am very displeased, at level 14 with no rMut, I don't hold my chances of getting out of the Abyss intact very high..

Take one step into the Abyss and I see a Lich and a Skeleton dragon, This is NOT looking good, Fortunately I have a ring of TP, which I fire up then start hauling...
After a while I manage to evade pursuit and hole up in a walled in enclosure to recover sp/hp by the time it's opened again I have enough firepower to throw distracting ice beasts to distract big stuff and blasty stuff to kill the things that I can, somehow I manage to escape intact after only several thousand turns, and without any mutations Yay!

Then dealt harshly with Louise and managed to get back to my proper floor, Only had to use up one potion of speed and burn one charge off my wand of haste, I wonder how much more luck I can manage to get :)
