YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Hell. It may sound obvious, but I fell for it.

Basically, I was having too easy a time. The game lulled me into a false sense of security and BAM: a Fiend that tormented me twice. I killed him all right, after beserking, but when running back to the vesibule Another Fiend appeared when I was slowed and roasted my ass.

A harsh lesson... Oh well, I never really liked troll berserkers that much, wouldn't wanna win my first win with one, Right? Right?

So, here goes, the morgue file:

Re: YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Going into Gehenna as a level 23 Berserker sounds pretty suicidal, good job killing the first Fiend at least. :P

Re: YASD - Don't Underestimate...

Instead of spamming the forum with tons of YASD's, I'll just group my stupid deaths in one. More tidy that way. This character is perhaps still a bit low level to be worthy of a post, but I find his death much more frustrating than the TrBe.

Anyways, don't underestimate orc mines either. I was finally getting this DGTm going , he actually found boots of running and a book of necromancy, jesus, he was cruising! Most parts of the mines were already clear, but then I went up into a flight of stairs...

An orc knight and 4 orc warriors were waiting and apparently very awake right next to the stairs. My only option was running back down the stairs, and then heading for the direction in which only 1 orc warrior could hit me. I still had 19 HP, 10 AC and 20 EV, so I'd have to be pretty unlucky to get killed by that one swing. Well, never underestimate the RNG's ability to screw you over just when you don't want it. I guess this is the reason why people consider the orcish mines to be more dangerous than the lair...

Anyways, here's Yet Another Morgue File:

um, i think another option for you would be to evaporate confusion on those orcs...

Not quite. The resulting meph cloud has only so much chance to confuse any of the five orcs (especially the knight), and the chance of confusing all of them is not large enough to make it a secure panic button. Not to mention that even confused, they could still luck out and attack you.

Well, beside the orc warriors and knight, there were a whole bunch of priests, wizards and the like waiting as well. Any attempt to confuse the knight or warriors would probably confuse me as well, and running around confused with priests smiting me didn't seem like an attractive plan.

You had posion resistance, which makes you immune to meph confusion.

In such a case, targeting the meph on yourself confuses everything standing right next to you (unless they have rPois, of course).

nope! i wondered why you had so many confusion potions. if you have poison resistance you won't get confused by evaporating a potion of confusion. you could have confused at least some of them and *then* run down the stairs if there were priests milling about.

even if you don't have poison resistance you can cast it on top of yourself and, with smart play, become un-confused sooner than enemies. using this technique has saved my life dozens of times.

True, but I wasn't aware I had poison resistance, the ring wasn't ID'd yet. I only knew about its rage and Dex + 3 properties. Funny how not having a scroll to ID the ring is probably what killed me. Knowledge is power, I guess. I had considered using evaporate confusion, but again, the thought of running around confused with a merry band or orcs, wizards and priests didn't seem appealing to me.

It's not the ring - you were wearing the Cekugob amulet, which grants rPois (among many other nifty things).

That's my other YASD ;). Perhaps grouping my YASD's into a single topic is rather confusing...

The ring of the Barnacle is the sickest piece of jewelry I've ever seen though.
