CIP: DEAE with wacky equipment needs guidance

Deep Elf Air Elementalist.

Playing it broadly and was intending to go Nemelex.

Found...
lots of Necromantic Spells
Staff of Fire
HALBERD OF PAIN (-3 aptitude, really????)
6 EW I scrolls
2 ENCHANT ARMOUR SCROLLS
and am now standing on a Gold Dragon Hide, clutching my DAGGER of PROTECTION.

What the friggity f. I'm sure this will all be nice and good for Nemelex sacrifices, but really.

My character is way too young for this sort of pressure. Plus I should upgrade my deployment to take advantage of the cheapened Spellcasting leveling.

Advice requested. Haven't found the Temple yet.

I would go with staff of fire -> Sif Muna, becoming a FE. There's more or less no way to use the GDA other than nemelex (or Cheibriados, eventually - that could be amusing). Halberd will take forever at -3 to become reasonably quick.

You memorized slow and not mephitic cloud? With swiftness in your starting book? Is this some sort of joke?

If you want to play a melee hybrid you could eventually work towards the halberd but that's probably a bad idea because of the xp requirement, both in polearms and in necromancy (you also lose a shield which is handy for early/midgame on frail characters.) A better option is probably to use an enhancer stave, such as the one you already have. Learn IMB or stone arrow or something for things with rf.

Nemelex is basically always a strong god. He has some synergy with staff-based combat, as well, because his abilities uses evocations, which provide a nice benefit. Carrying numerous decks would probably be a pain, though, with De's strengh. De also have very low hp so melee will be difficult.

If you want to be a mostly-caster, which is probably easier, Vehumet would also be a powerful god (and he guarantees his super-fireballs in his second book), as would sif muna. Worshipping vehumet then training fire magic a lot will allow you to have a strong back-up melee attack (the staff) and also have very powerful fireballs (and fire storm eventually.) I like sif muna more usually but she's probably less immediately powerful. Lightning bolt should see you through lair, however.

My rough skill order would be:
Hybrid: Mephitic cloud->lightning bolt->8 staves->8ish evocations->10 fire->some dodging/fighting->14ish evocation(if nemelex)->Agony/Dispel Undead->more fire/t&d/evocation/whatever spells you find
Caster: Metphitic cloud->lightning bolt->conjurations/spellcasting->fireball or other gifted/found conjuration->Agony/Dispel Undead->some fighting/t&d/whatever spells you find

Probably I would memorize mephitic then burn minor wizardry to forget slow.

It was kneejerk keypresses as I'd been playing Fire Elementalists up till that point, and had fun with Slow + Inner Flame.

Anyway, next card with a legendary Experience I pounded into Spellcasting, so Meph was one of many spells I soon had.

Died to a severely hostile Red Wasp swarm from a bad Summoning Deck card pull in Lair.
