first victory on trunk/15 runes,MiFi-Oka/TSO,Sword of Power

I switched to a US server (http://crawlus.somatika.net), which is much faster here in California. This is my first victory on the trunk. 15 runes and I killed all the Pan Lords and other bosses. I still can't get too far in a zig but I didn't push my luck for once.

  • Oka gifted me the Sword of Power early on. It goes up to +27/+27 in the trunk. According to the weapon comparison spreadsheet, this should have been better than my +8/+9 Blessed Blade, but in practice it didn't seem to (and the Blessed Blade doesn't lose power when my health drops). Anyone know why? Regardless, I made good use of it.
  • I found a lightning rod pretty early (and I found a second one as well). Those are great.
  • The swamp is much improved in the trunk. The levels are smaller and they have an actual shape to them. The Elven Halls have some great new maps for the final floor. Unfortunately the Abyss is just a tedious and horrible as ever.
  • The Royal Jelly can now regenerate health. Wow! He is really tough!
  • Is there any defense against all that rot in The Tomb? It makes me feel like I have to do it last, which means that all the great loot goes to waste.
  • DemonSpawn fighters seem much harder to play in the trunk, but I don't know why (they just feel under powered).
  • Who is Dissolution? I don't remember killing him, but he shows up pretty high on the "Vanquished Creatures" list.
  • I tried to keep my Int low, which led to some tense situations. Unfortunately I got two mutations which made it scary low, so I had to raise it a bit.

The royal jelly regenerates health because spawned jellies no longer give exp. The potential exploit gone, the devs figured, "why not?"
For rot, you need statue form or necromutation. The easier solution is to bring a lot of pots, with the extras just outside the entrance so they don't shatter.
Dissolution is a slime-only unique who summons eyes. He may do other things as well, but I've never found him hard.

Spawned jellies never gave xp, if I remember correctly. Personally I still haven't fought the new RJ, but I kinda dislikes this change: it could be too easy to kite and kill the old RJ, but that (along the spawning mechanism) make it different from other strong uniques.

I agree. The change makes TRJ feel much more.. homogenous.
