YAVP: Shakaru the Lajataur (5-Runer)
Wanted to see how a Lajataur played. Hint: Exactly like any other melee Minotaur. Took me 4 tries, so a 25% winrate. Take that, Minmay!
Uh, not much to say. First time clearing the Slime Pits. Tab doesn't work well there (Actually, the fact tab ignores terrain is kind of annoying anywhere), but it was really really quick.
I was "done with the game" long before I was done with the game. Dived through Slime, Zot, Elf, Swamp, and Snake. That was annoying. Not as annoying as late-game banishment, however. Why do late game mobs even have banishment? Especially those in Zot; does anyone go to Zot before they can mow over the Abyss? Why the heck do Draconians have it then... bah, I digress.
Lajatangs are pretty nice. I did the usual MiGl w/Quarterstaff -> Trog for Laja gift.
Boons: You get a pretty badass weapon for not much XP investment. Results in you getting beefy defenses online sooner, or whatever else you want to waste XP on.
Cons: Quarterstaffs and Lajatangs are rare. You're stuck with your starting Quarterstaff for a long time; luckily it's a decent weapon. Also, late late late, you might start to feel the low damage output. I was lucky enough to get a Lajatang of Speed, but I can see someone who's stuck with a Lajatang of fire/cold feeling let down eventually. It's not a low-investment executioner's axe.
PS: the Abyss sucks.
