CiP: Armor for casters?

Hey guys, once again I am in need of your expert help. Found a ring of robustness fairly early and have been rocking some mid 20-s armor most of the game. It is getting close to the end game and I was curious if it was worth throwing more points in to armor and if I do, what type of armor should I wear? I have a steam dragon hide available, but I like mottle dragon a bit better jut because I hate sticky flame in zot. I just dont have a mottled dragon hide. Should I hold out for one of those, skip armor entirely or what? Any suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance! Oh yah, the trove wants 2 cure mutation potions, but I only have 2 and no Rmut so far, should I hold out on that as well?

I'd enter the trove, as you don't have any mutations now. Between the dungeon, zot and V8 you may find another one anyway. If you're only going for 3 runes mutations are very unlikely to matter. If you're going for more, you'll likely find another cure mutation potion anyway. While you're unlikely to find a stellar armour in the trove, I think its worth checking before you use any scrolls to enchant an armour.

You have excellent dexterity so consider training dodging. I'd go for 10-15. Of course, you'll still need XP to get firestorm castable. But I'd get some dodging at 13 EV is really low.

Armour skill does (almost) nothing in a robe. Don't train it unless you use armour with a higher base AC.

I think it's worth upgrading to steam or mottled dragon armour soon. Fire/ice DA might be a good goal if you're doing more than three runes: fully enchanted they might give you GDR worth 5 AC or more. At 9 armour skill, a fully-enchanted SDA gives +14 or +15 AC (5 base + 5 enchantment + 2 due to armour skill + 2 or 3 due to DGR), much better than the robe's +6. MDA would give +17 or +18 at just 8 armour. (I'm just now trying to figure out GDR, so my numbers are probably a bit off.)

I just started wearing the robe really. Never had any rPoison besides some orcish leather armor until I finished elf. Honestly I really have no idea how armor works when it comes to affecting spells and accuracy and all that.

What armour you wear depends entirely on what you want your dude to do. If you want firestorm on a 3 rune Ds, mottled is as heavy as you should go. However, in your case, assuming you want to firestorm dudes, you couldn't ask for better armour than your robe. Large int boost for spells, large dex bonus for dodging. Robustness for AC.
