YAVP DEWI: First 15 rune win
After reading tcjsavannah's post about a boring DEWI 15 rune win, I thought I'd pattern my skill-ups and spells after his run.
I lucked out and found an early Robe of the Archmagi and really got serious with the character.
Some of the interesting points:
-Being afflicted with mutations only 3 times when I wasn't in Lich Form and every time resulted in a beneficial mutation.
-I never found any decent artifact armour, but the artifact jewelry I came across was phenomenal.
Only 1 rMut was on artifact jewelry
-Only 3 decent branded shields in the entire game...1 buckler and 2 shields of reflection....
-One of those shields of reflection was wielded by Asmodeus and we each reflected the same Orb of Destruction at each other.
--And finally my most luck filled moment:
In Gehenna, I was fleeing from a mob of creatures down a tunnel I had created with Dig. I was in Lich form, 2 health, 3 mana, no scrolls of blink left and hell effects put me face to face with a Brimstone Fiend. I was dead. I knew it...and very disapointed at being so close and failing yet again. I backed away from the computer and ran my mind over anything that might help...No wands of healing were ever discovered...Several potions of heal wound...but lich form would take a couple of turns to dissapate. I COULD blink once, uncontrolled...but probably wouldn't survive it. I scanned through every item in my inventory and got to one of the last ones 'Legendary Deck <The Tomb>'...wow! I knew that I couldn't use it with the fiend on top of me, and I'd need to wield it and use it...3 turns of 2 health against a Brimstone fiend. Luck in the most obvious sense.
After finishing off the 4 Hells, Tomb was VERY anti-climactic. Just LRD'd into the ladders and firestormed everything. ZOT 5 was a joke. I never even saw a single pan lord on the ascent...but I sweated every moment. I did have 1 character (of my 3 who have touched the Orb of Zot) who died on the Ascent.
Thank you very much to the creators and contributors that made this maddening, frustrating, addictive game.
