YAVP: SEMO high score reflections

The previous SEMO high score was utterly terrible: "3501. splat the Farming Grand Master (L27 SEMo), worshipper of Makhleb, mangled by an Ice Fiend in Pandemonium on 2008-07-09, with 3006134 points after 232962 turns and 17:31:55."

Due to that, and the fact that SEMO is an apparently decent combo, I decided this would be the first character I would play with speed as my primary goal as opposed to safety. It was a lot of fun.

I chose Kiku because Kiku is really good and I also wanted to play with some of the Necronomicon spells. DDoor and Borgs are incredibly powerful. Having the two of them really makes you feel invincible. I planned on getting necromutation to eliminate the sickness from casting haunt, avoid mutations, and perhaps to supplement my unarmed combat but it proved unnecessary. Haunt's negative effects are almost nil with Kiku and regeneration alleviates sickness quite quickly.

Pandemonium was both easy and very fun on this character. I simply cteleported into the rune vault and used cblinks and apportation to get the rune. I cast DDoor while ninjaing Lom (he was ice storm happy) and Gloorx (surrounded by executioners, I fully expected to cast it here). Acquiring the fiery rune was hair raising but not terribly dangerous, and Mnoleg was essentially truant.

In hindsight there are a few things I should have done differently. I probably didn't need to get haunt at all, though it was useful in a few situations. I shouldn't have been so eager to get the high-level Necromancy spells; by focusing on unarmed combat through the midgame I would have saved turns recovering HP and MP after fights. I didn't get sublimation of blood until late in the game--this should have been a clue to focus more on melee! Likewise, if I had better UC I could have tabbed more of Zot 5 instead of casting haunt all the time which was pretty slow and somewhat ineffective.

I presume that he only grabbed nine because he didn't need any more for the high score.

This is the case.

Tasonir, the character was also taking too long and I was starting to get bored. Having such an easy time "ninjaing" pan got me excited, though, and I couldn't wait to win!
