[CIP] DGIE - what to do against 27-headed hydra

Oh, what a fool I was! I totally forgot about the possibility of the Lernaean hydra in Swamp 5, so I went to blasting with my conjurator, believing nothing could stop me. Well, now we know know that turned out.

So. What to do? I can survive maybe 2 turns. Realistically, what are my options?

You won't last long enough to tele. Even if you haste up without getting mauled, you won't be able to outrun it with those mushrooms in the way. You can't possibly kill everything in time. ...I guess your best bet is the scrolls of fear? I mean, it'll probably resist, but there's a chance it will work, then you can haste up, blast through the shrooms and run away.

What you want to be doing is to be hasted, levitating, and swifted and several squares away- running. And dropping clouds of ice on and bolts at that monster until it finally falls.

I looked up the likelihood of fear working on the high MR of the hydra, and according to the wiki it would have been practically zilch chance.

So, I zapped my tele wand and proceeded to splat quite bloodily on the very next turn. Such is life in Swamp 5.

Fear had a small chance of working, if it affected enough of the right things. You just have to win a tough MR roll, or few. Tele had effectively zero chance of working; in the 3-6 turns it takes to kick in, you'd be facing a minimum of 81 attacks. That's 81 bad dodge and block rolls to win- the odds against that are absurd (depending on how the rng works it might be impossible). Not to mention incidental attacks by the other dragons, and the meph or poison clouds you'd be likely sitting in.

It's just like /quest/! Except you've got no investment and don't really care when the protagonist ignores sensible advice.

Oh well. I kind of like getting these absurd "what's the one thing I can do in this hopeless situation that has the best/any odds of getting me out alive" posts. They're like those endgame solve for mate in n-moves chess puzzles. :P

Seen the topic too late...but wouldn't the best bet have been trying to run towards the swamp drakes diagonally down, hoping that the enemies move in a way that leaves the Lernaean Hydra stuck behind another enemy? I don't know much about how walking paths are determined but using the weaker enemies as meat shields IS a valid tactic.

The Lernaean Hydra is faster than human speed while it's in water. It would have quickly caught up and gobbled the demigod up for its dinner.
