YASD - DDPr of Zin found the wall
The build is based on cerebovsquire's post on some sling wielding DDPr s. I got lucky with a pre-lair shop with a vorpal scroll for sale. Dart and dagger throwing worked well in the early dungeon until I found my first sling.
The high T&D skill is almost entirely due to the manual I found in the labyrinth. Hopefully that keeps me safe from further blade traps . I found no shields until lair, but the first was a +2 shield, and shortly thereafter I found this +2 large shield in a volcano. Slings has been left on and focused. I wasted some XP on dodging to no effect. Normal size, blah Dex and plate is very different than small size, high dex and dragon armour (played several halflings recently). For next skills, I'm torn between finishing slings, 25 shield, 20 armour, 10 fighting (accuracy and HP), but maybe more invocations is a better idea, to make recite more useful? Book selection is abyssmal, except for a book of the warp, which might eventually be awesome if I ever find any lower-tier transloc to train with in the meantime.
I still have two recharge scrolls and a fair amount of MP left, but I ran into St Roka in D17 and was scared off (I can get around him easily and skip the level if that's the safest option). Spider... nearly killed me just dipping in. I stair danced the entrance, but even just walking a little down the corridor I was surrounded again. Poison isn't so much a problem as getting swarmed by fast moving spiders. Getting held by jumping spiders made them all more dangerous. Invis seems to work for most of them, but there's not much point in doing that unless I'm just diving for the rune. I'm racking my brains to figure out how to deal with this branch on this char. Maybe I just have to come back with high AC.
As for snake, I've pulled loot from the levels and cleared them, but snake 5 is mostly just the rune and trouble (I have cleared an approach to the big room from nearby stairway). Nagas have been easy to kite and vitalization takes care of poison, but I'm a little nervous about greater Nagas and massive numbers of Nagas at once. With good MR and a little pulling of some of the Nagas from the room, I might be able to push in, imprison a few till I get close, sanctuary when I see the rune, then rand tele out. Haven't found vault yet, but it should show up soon.
Playstyle wise, most things in small numbers I can ream with rocks before they spend too many turns trying to get through my blocking + GDR + damage shaving. Generally, I pull one or two creatures at LOS back into corridors and pummel them on approach. Vitalization is used if there's a chance of sickness or serious poison (low damage creatures I don't bother worrying about). Anything that is too close and hits hard enough to damage me, I'll imprison to improve my range, then pummel again. Or just imprison and run away if it's not in the way to the stairs/other objective. Sanctuary I've only had to use once to escape Spider, so I'm not sure I have its utility figured out, other than as a escape button, or to rush the runes. Recite I use if I've got distance and a mob, or if I've got a weakling standing next to me while I recite to the rest of a mob. It's been tricky to figure out precisely when to use, but driving orc warriors mad and permanently blinding orc wizards was nice earlier on. I've been a little underwhelmed by its effects on the undead. Dealing damage directly to ugly things isn't bad, though.
