CIP: Ogre Berserker: now YASD

This character is progressing very nicely so far--I have 4 runes so far and I just cleared Zot. I would like to get my second 15-runer (the first was with a MD fighter of Oka/TSO). I am mainly wondering 2 things:

1. I just abandoned Trog because I would like to switch to TSO. Can/should I switch to Zin first to get rid of my bad mutations (none are terrible, but they are still annoying)? If so, how does this work? I have 4 cmuts in stash, but no rMut amulet.
2. How does a blessed +9+9 GSC compare to my current +3+7 GSC of speed?

A +9 blessed GSC is going to be better against vulnerable monsters. Remember that speed 1) decreases damage slightly and 2) isn't a 200% speed increase. This means that the GSC is speed 7 right now and the speed brand takes it down to 7*0.5 = 3,5 -> 4 speed because of rounding up.
And then there's of course the slight disparity in damage enchantment (not very relevant) and accuracy enchantment (more relevant because your accuracy isn't exactly stellar).
On the other hand you have +acc and +dam which both speak for the speed GSC. Probably someone should do some calculations here, I still think the holy one is better but I am not 100% sure.

If you ask me go TSO, get that club blessed and then go Zin for the rest of extended. He lacks the raw power of TSO in killing stuff, but a holy GSC compensates that pretty well. Heals-on-kills are a larger sacrifice.
On the other hand, Zin:
1) Sanctuary. Your instant I-survive-anything button because it makes you invulnerable (and incapable to attack) inside the sanctuary. Especially if you are not experienced with extended, you might run into some situations where this will help because, for instance, you didn't know the vault.
2) rMut that is piety/200 - usually more reliable than the amulet. Extremely helpful and also clears an amulet slot.
3) rRot upon invoking Vitalisation. Makes Gloorx Vloq (the worst Pan lord) a lot less of a threat.
4) Hell effect protection. Usually you get spammed with monsters every couple hundred turns in Hell. With Zin you can rest up normally and don't get nasty surprises (torment, paralisation, etc.) in the middle of already nasty fights.
5) Imprison. Shut down tormentors, smiters, hellfiring foes from range.

Now, TSO is definitely a great choice, but I always think that holy wrath melee chars should consider Zin at the very least. He is more reliable (keeps you alive and clean) and not merely focussed on killing everyone.

If you can somehow throw a bit of skill towards memorizing the Silence spell, that will help in Tomb. Not sure if Zin provides protection in that regard.

So first I used one cMut and then decided to go for the abyss rune, for TSO piety. I got teleportitis in Abyss, so I cured that along with the rest of my mutations. Then I decided I wanted to keep TSO for Tomb and switch to Zin after, both because torment is easier to deal with when I have rN+++, and because angels/daevas can deal with the death curses instead of me. This worked fine until the stairs by Tomb 3, when I encountered about 6 tormenters at once, plus Boris. After a couple close calls there, I finally decided to use my scroll of silence + 2 angels and a daeva to finish the floor. This worked fine.

Then I got overconfident and decided to try to tackle Dis 7 while I still had an angel summoned. Dis itself was not a problem, but Trog decided to spam me with berserk warriors again, and I thought "If I tele away like usual, I might end up right next to Dispater or a bunch of tormenters (or right next to Trog summons again), which could be worse. I'll just take these out with cleansing flame." Bad idea--they each got down to about 1/2 HP after about 3 flame blasts, while I got down to about 50HP and suddenly realized I had no blink scrolls, a 98% failure blink spell, and a -CAST ring (I didn't think I would be using spells). Oops. I tried speed+tele+heal pots, but to no avail. Next time maybe I'll try amulet of faith, because Trog wrath seemed to last forever and I got sick of waiting it out. Trog's wrath lasts around 34k turns. An amulet of faith will reduce it by a few thousand turns.

While it's certainly possible to survive, all the advice I've ever gotten about trog wraith was either Tomb yourself, hover over lava, or most commonly, "don't." Okawaru's wrath is a lot easier to survive, Trog seems to like killing his deserters. I personally tend to just stick with whatever god I've chosen for the most part

You mentioned using holy flame...how would your melee have faired? I would think that if anyone could take out trog summons that a +9 GSC ogre with golden dragon armor would be able to. Are they still beyond even your character's strength to kill, assuming you were fighting them alone in a reasonably good starting position?

I tried melee a few times, but whenever Trog had summoned berserk iron trolls or stone giants it quickly became too much to handle. The blink spell may have helped, as even if I was at full health with no enemies nearby to start, the main problem was not the difficulty of the enemies but they fact that there were so many of them and they were all berserk.
I don't think I had a means of Tomb/levitation that would last for very long, but maybe not abandoning Trog in the first place would have been helpful, or at the very least watching the turn count. Thanks for your advice.
