YASD: Eldritch tentacle (MiFi, 10 runes, 1st time in Hell)
Hi!
Couldn't help myself but had to write an obituary of my most successful character of all time who died in a most unique game of all my games.
What's so unique about it? Well, I found several nice randarts with +dam and useful resistances around Lair depth, got a +12 crystal plate from Oka and a shield of reflection from Donald in Orcs. Unlike that games where you find a sabre of pain as a necromancer or a GDA as fighter on D:1, only to be splattered 2 floors deeper, at this time my character just started to get going anyway, so these finds boosted his survivability to some ridiculous levels for this point of the game (randart vorpal trident, 48 AC, rPois, rElec, sInv, etc. in Lair? Yes please!) So I decided to not even bother going in the main dungeon yet and:
- steamrolled Swamp, killing a lot of uniques along the way, and got a rune,
- steamrolled Shoals, got a rune and killed Mennas,
- steamrolled dungeon straight to 26,
- found rMut in a treasure trove and preservation in Elf:5,
- got a V:8 rune and a Slime rune,
- got abyssed from Zot, in Zot-ready gear with lots of permafood, got a rune,
- finished Zot 1-4, sadly, didn't get a GDA, don't care too much at this point,
- switched to TSO, cleared Crypt and Vestibule.
At this point of the game I can easily switch resistances for any branch of Hell. The thing is, I have never been to Hell before, so went to Dis. Hell mystical force summons were just tabtabtab, but around Dis:5 I realised that mystical force can inflict un-curable rotting (wasted several !healing and /healing charges), so I just dived in, killed Dispater and got his rune.
Since I had not too much healing stuff, I decided not to mess with Hell mystical force yet and went to Pan for runes and item farming. Got a demonic rune right away, and after spending some time there also killed Gloorx, Mnoleg and Cerebov (also 1st time). Cerebov was the easiest, as he was just standing on his island not doing anything while two hasted angels next to him and myself across the river of flame were doing our thing.
And then I end up in a Pan region next to some random Pan lord, his summons and an eldritch tentacle. I had blink and cTele ready, but why should I do this? I've already killed these spaghettis before, they were totally harmless. So I kill the Pan lord, start cleaning his summons, when suddenly this tentacle chain-palalyze-locks me while doing some massive damage anong with a tormentor. Damn. "You die."
If only I knew...
I want to go back to playing spellcasters, but damn these fighters are so easy to get to midgame...
