CiP - Gin Schwa, "The Younger Sibling", HEGl of Nemelex
After Schwa the High Elf Conjurer heroically ascended with the Orb of Zot, her inspired younger brother decided he wanted to prove to her he could do the same, and so "Gin Schwa"'s adventure began. The major difference? He's a Gladiator, of course. I don't know how far I'll get because I'm not super well-versed in doing well with a melee character, but so far this game has been EXCELLENT.
I began with a Falchion weapon choice, deciding this will be a Long Blades game. Sweeped D:1 easily and reached XL3 that early, successfully averting a cursed -6 Ring of Dexterity because I identified it first, and finding a Ring of Negative Energy Res that I'm still wearing. In D:2 I encountered Ilyb and Sigmund right next to each-other, and killed them BOTH thanks to well-timed use of the Throwing Nets. Found a stack of five Javelins as well, which is fantastic early-on; also found a Spellbook of Maledicitions, began training Hexes up a little bit in case I want to use it later.
The next few dungeons spawned several Ogres. I've killed each one with ease so far by relying on the Javelins, Nemelex's first deck which was Destruction, and occasionally Wands of Frost. I ran into major trouble when a Wyvern and an Orc Warrior came after me with several Normal Orcs; I successfully beat them all using a Wand of Enslavement on the Warrior, who fought the Wyvern to the death with only a sliver of HP left and then his Normal Orcs finished him off (which I in turn finished off ).
At around D:7 I found eight Javelins of Penetration. Shortly after, I found a little room filled with about 30 Orcs, four of them being Warriors. I lined them up and let them have it with the Javelins, taking out almost the entire group as well as 3 of the Warriors, then I used my Wand of Enslavement on the remaining one (who had 3/4 its health left), who took out almost all of the rest of his own orcs and was killed by the remaining three, which again, I defeated myself. Then I went and sacrificed an ENTIRE LOS ANGELAS FULL OF ORCISH ITEMS for Peity. I was thrilled!
I almost died, also on D:7, when I opened a door that had a Merfolk and two Fish, who proceeded to throw a Net at me as I ran away. Go Go Gadget Teleport Scroll! Man that was frightening. I haven't touched that corner of D:7 since.
Jellies are already everywhere too. I've found at least 2 or 3 on D:7 through D:9, and it's been terrifying trying to fight them because I'm not a caster and I don't want my stuff corroded! Wands and Nemelex have been my only saving grace. On D:9 I was rushed by Yaks, and I almost died when Nemelex's Deck of Summoning went rogue on me and I summoned a hostile Dancing Short Sword! Teleport Scroll again, but it only put me about four spaces away from where I was. @_@ Luckily it was enough to escape upstairs without them following me up. I took another staircase down, snuck around them, and found the Lair entrance (which the Yaks must have been guarding).
That's where I am now. I set my Stash up, read my two un-ID'd spellbooks that I'd forgotten in the excitement, and awesomely, they're a Book of Power and a Book of Flame! Now I've got Throw Flame, Conjure Flame, and Confuse as my three spells, which have terrible success rates right now but steadily getting better as I train Fire, Conjurations and Hexes up along with Armor and Shields. Then I read my un-ID'd Scrolls. Scroll of Acquirement. Asked for Weapon: DEMON BLADE OF FLAME. YESSSSS.
And that's where I decided to save and quit and play later! This has been an AWESOME game, full of great things and full of dangerous, challenging things, and it feels like the rewards and risks have been 50-50 and cranked up to eleven the whole time. I hope I win with this one, simply because things have been so exciting!
Here's my log file so far. OH. I also have an Ornate Deck of Wonders already. Scary but awesome. (That's how I got my Tengu beak mutation! BRRAAAAAWK!)
