This is the first time in a long while that I've had a conjurator get into a position of potency. I have Freezing Cloud and Poison Arrow up at 1% (admittedly with some wizardry, although the chances are actually still OK without it) with absolutely no hunger thanks to my handy dandy staff of energy. I also just picked up the Book of Enchantments from a shop in Orc:4 for Deflect Missiles and Haste, and combined with Ozocubu's Armor I should be good on defenses for a while. This is all before I've even dipped into the Lair subbranches. My short term goal is to just clear out the midgame, but should I consider the endgame if this all goes well? Ice Storm (which I have in a book) will be reachable eventually, so maybe it just might be possible. However, haven't even gotten a simple 3-rune win with a spellcaster yet, so I'm not completely sure if I'm ready for that.

But in any case, suggestions? I'd definitely like the forum's feedback, this is something that rarely happens for me and I don't want to screw it up

My character has been doing pretty well - cleared out the Lair subbranches, Vaults:1-7, and Elf:1-4. I had to stop in the middle of Crypt:4 because Khufu and his greater mummy thugs showed up, and I teleported away ASAP. I think I'm doing reasonably well spell-wise, with Poison Arrow and Freezing Cloud still carrying me through, although I suppose that they aren't really going to last for the post-endgame (not that I really want to risk doing that). Equipment wise, I'm very well off - I've picked up a demon trident of electrocution (and the appropriate amount of Polearms levels) as a backup weapon, I've acquired some unrandart armor that considerably improves my evasion, and some ego items that bring my resistances up to a respectable level. I'm planning to go to Elf:5 next, then Vaults:8 and then finally Zot - thoughts?

Sadly, this all comes to an end. Did well for most of the late midgame, and died on Zot:5. Why? Well, I was forced between a draconian pack and a eldritch portal spawned by a Zot trap when a monster stepped on it, with no MP (a situation I probably should have been able to get out of somehow), but I decided to try to teleport out instead. As it turns out, that was a big mistake. I was thrust straight into the upper right lung and my teleport wand ran out of charges. I was basically unable to do anything (remember, I have no MP) and was completely and utterly torn apart. Still, it was a fairly good game - I have finally figured out spellcasters and I actually didn't face significant difficulties until, well, Zot. If things went just a little differently, I probably would have survived, but I'm really very angry or sad at the loss, because it is Crawl after all. There's always next time, though next time I am not planning to play a naga again. They are of course absurdly powerful, but bleh, they still leave a bad taste in my mouth.
