CIP: MuAM - need help!

Hey guys,

I finally got a Mummy Arcane Marksman going after many, many tries (yes, I love challenges). I've been going pretty well up to this point on my venom weapons, and I had a fantastic moment where I was sitting at 4 HP with a spear-throwing gnoll sargeant and vanilla gnoll chasing me, but I turned around, inner-fire'd the gnoll, then zapped draining on it for explosive fun (seriously, this kind of experimental creativity is what keeps me coming back to Crawl). But I had too many extremely close calls and I'm running low on resources. I really want this guy to get going, but this is a strange sort of spontaneous gameplay so I don't really know what to do next (fighter, conjurer, crusader, ???). I'm in the Temple right now and I don't know which god to choose; deity choice will no doubt impact the rest of my game.

And is it worth continuing to pump Hexes? Is Cause Fear worth memorizing? Are Mass Confusion and Darkness worth training up for? Thanks!

EDIT: I need to identify that ring, lol.

EDIT AGAIN: As long as I'm focusing on M&F, should I buy the fixedart +4,+8 shillelagh "Devastator"? It's in a shop for just 288 gold. What's the spellpower for its passive Shatter?

Re: CIP: MuAM - need help!

It appears to be the damage dealt. Which won't be very high given that its base type is a club.

Re: CIP: MuAM - need help!

I think you're asking the wrong question.
"I have the chance to try out a cool unique non-random artefact, should I?"
YES. Maybe it won't be that good, but it's $288 for some amusement. Or maybe it will be the best thing ever.

It's pretty good in my experiences with it in zigsprint.

Re: CIP: MuAM - need help!

It's actually a custom basetype: +3/8/130%.

Re: CIP: MuAM - need help!

Well, I'd say it really depends on the direction you want to go with your Mu. Ash is always a decent choice on a Mu because of their bad apts, Nem and Makhleb are no brainers for anyone and If you really want to play up the AM side of your character, you can go Okie for the ammo gifts.

Re: CIP: MuAM - need help!

kiku, end of discussion

(inner flame zombies... pain-brand a good weapon for ridiculous melee... actually be useful very early, more so than Okawaru... very easy to switch from if you prefer Makhleb, Sif, Ashenzari or Nemelex later)

And yes, shillelagh is ridiculously good that early on. I even still liked it on D:16 when I had it once.
