You just got really, really, really unlucky.

And that happens. ^^ It's a shame, but the best thing you can do is start over and keep looking forward.

There is one fix, and that is to wear an Amulet of Stasis until you're resistant enough to shrug off paralysis. But if you're a Tengu, that means you can't fly either, doesn't it? Ah well. Put everything in Dodging, get some Armor too, something light yet effective such as Trollhide, Steam or Mottled with lots of +s, and a Ring to help if possible. Get Magic Res as soon as you possibly can; kill Wights, loot their armor and pray, or take on the Orc Halls and find the shops at the bottom and pray. But no matter how lucky you are in a game, you can become unlucky in the blink of an eye. Sorry to hear about this one.

Giant eyeball paralysis ignores MR.

Though actually, in this case it doesn't look like he was paralysed - it seems the damage from Joseph's sling bullet + the hill giant's club killed him in one turn anyway.

Amulet of stasis does not prevent flying, no.

And no, I wasn't paralyzed by the eye. The hill giant did enough damage to bring me down to 2 or 3 HP, so whatever damage Joseph did was enough to make that lethal.

Some more context, I was CL 8 and this happened on D:7, most stuff that might have helped was not yet available. This was also the 30th TeAE in a row that I'd lost.
