[CIP] Fire Storm is amazing (DEFE 21)

Wow... not my first time getting Fire Storm to a "castable" level, but this is my first time keeping it for more than 5 mins followed by a stupid death, and I just have to say DAMN its powerful!!

So far I've annihilated Lair,Orc,Swamp,Snake,Elf completely, and Vaults through 7 as well as 18 in the dungeon. My spell list is coming together nicely thanks to a cloud mage chamber and *10* spellbooks on Elf:5, but no controlled blink or the good necro spells.

I've cleared Vaults 8 only on berserkers where i could stair dance the entry committee, I have alistair (not memorized atm) but no clarity to pair with it, should i go in and pop heal pot to use it knowing ill need it to keep the committee at bay long enough to fire storm them to hell, plus since fire storm pretty much paints a neon sign on me saying: "Elf Jerky here, you know you want it badly mr Vaults8". I've won on melee before, but this guy should be powerful enough to nab me more of the runes, and I'd love to get to play hells/pan (never been before).

If i manage to clear vaults, is Crypt or Slimes my next stop?

If you try for Slime, be warned that you may face 6+ acid blobs all spitting at you for several turns. I think the royal jelly took three fire storms the one time I tried.

Crypt is easier than Slime for every build that I can think of. Likewise, clear the remainder of the dungeon. I usually clear Zot 1-4 and Vault 8 before attempting Slime. V8's not too bad if you use stealth but I see that you're using firestorm so it might get dicey. That said, I nearly always train stealth so my preferred order may differ.

Vaults 8 took a while, but stair dancing and firestorm cleared it. I followed the V8 win with D through 24, and then after an abyss trip thanks to me having to wield a distortion weapon by sheer stupidity, I decided it was time to go Slime it up.

Put on my rCorr necklace and dove in, Firestorm killed everything before it got close, and thanks to rCorr and my +5 Faerie Dragon Armour {Str+4} i picked up on D24, I took minimal damage. Loot provided a few decent spellbooks, and a rC++ animal skin. Following on I went further to D26, and i found a zig entry there. Crypt is next on the pecking order, but I am tempted to Zig, how hard are say 10 or so levels of a zig and will the loot be worth the visit?

I should probably trim my spell selection now that im close to 27 spellcasting, drop Sticky, throw flame, poison cloud, rmis for dmis, anything else im missing? Aside from DMis, Necromut (eludes me still), CBlink what spells should i be on the lookout for?

You might want to consider swapping out that skin of Zhor for your robe of resistance. No rF+ is a dicey proposition that deep, and you don't appear to have any swappable rF+ jewelry on you. One ticked off dragon or fire crab will ruin your whole day. Even though it's less AC, you (hopefully) aren't letting much get within melee distance as a DEFE with firestorm online.

Edit: whoops - I see you've got rF++ from a weapon swap. Carry on (with caution) :-)

the first 5-10 zig levels should be doable, but control your urge to dive deeper and deeper. you have plenty of gold, even if you don't find much it is most likely worth it, currently your equip is more on the basic side.

As a first time zigger on a DEFE, I had to bail around 13 or 14. There was decent loot but the mummy floors are just killer for anyone that doesn't have a way to shrug off death curses. I got out pretty much by the skin of my teeth thanks to controlled blink. Honestly I wouldn't attempt it without a reliable way to get to the portal out.
