First post on the forum, first victory in Crawl, first victory in a roguelike ever
I've played the game for a couple of years now, ever since 4.5, and I used to play Nethack in spurts for a long time (with one brief dive into Angband before I realized it was garbage). I was so excited that I forgot the character dump, though
It was a basic 3-rune win with a Kobold Berserker, although thanks to a cloak of darkness and boots of running it played more like a spriggan on steroids. I've reached zot 5 a few times before, but every time before I tried fighting my way in and inevitably got killed by orbs of fire or ancient lichs or other stuff. This time, I used my cloak of darkness along with rings of teleportation and teleport control to warp in, grab the orb, and race out as fast as possible. The craziest thing was, unlike my previous good games, this time I had NO fire resistance at all, until a single pip from a robe found in Zot. Hence the desire to avoid orbs of fire.
Proudest moments:
- backstabbing EVERYTHING in Vault 8, minus the initial guards, which were no match for a berserking kobold and his troll buddies
- avoiding killing anything on Zot 5
- one-shotting a hellion on my way out, just for kicks
Time for some SETr fun, maybe venturing into the hells for the first time!
