YASD: Agnes!

I've never played a Nemelex worshipper before, but I decided to try it out. After a rough start (I must have had ~20 decks of summoning/escape/destruction before I got my first deck of wonders) I finally made some headway, getting a nice demon trident and also finding the two Necromancy books I needed to pursue the mid- and end-game.

In Vault:2, I've got about 5-6 zombies that I'm using to train Summoning with recall. Open a door to find Agnes.. I retreat behind my zombies, but in two shots, Agnes beserks and wipes the floor with me. Gah!

Re: YASD: Agnes!

To get more decks of wonders, make your first sacrifice as a Nemelex worshipper a stack consisting of all the meat you've found in the dungeon up to that point. Every time I do that, the first deck gifted always seems to be wonders.

Re: YASD: Agnes!

I wouldn't do that till you get full-ish piety. That way you're more likely to get a higher brand of deck when you finally do throw away all your permafood.

would cutting ur victim bodies before offering them to namelex work toward deck of wonder ? Because if i dont cut them i get decks of summonings.
The flail fails to defends itself.

Re: YASD: Agnes!

You have to sacrifice stuff like rations, fruit and honeycombs for that to work. Even 'chunks of meat' count toward summoning, because it's not permanent food.

while that's true you always get a quick deck when you convert to nemelex and you can guarantee that it's wonder if you only sacrifice consumables up until then, and jumping from level 6 to level 8 and getting 5k experience seems like a much more valuable thing than going from 22 to 23 and getting 40k. I usually chuck away scrolls of fear and other non-essentials (like any teleport scroll over two), potions of mutation/brilliance, and some spare food until i get one.

Re: YASD: Agnes!

I agree about sacrificing any non-essential scrolls - anything not enchant x, teleport, blink and remove curse gets sac'd to Nemelex. I'm also all about sac'ing temp boost potions - how often do you really rely on that might or agility potion? But if it can help you get a deck of Wonders, it's worth the sacrifice. Brilliance I'll keep one to memorize a tough spell but that's it.

I also sac the "bad" potions/scrolls too. Is there any difference in Nemelex piety sacrificing bad potions vs. good potions?

For that matter, can you completely screw that system over by being a transmuter and sacrificing a bunch of potions of confusion?

To be a little more helpful: Piety gain/gift timeout is based on the value of the items you sacrifice, and bad/useless items have a value of 1gp.

Does a potion of mutation count as 'bad'? Because transmuters can make that as well. What about potions of water?

Mutation potions have a decent value and are definitely better to sacrifice than ugly thing corpses, but you might consider stockpiling some instead for later use. Nemelex also lets you effectively use Helix cards, which at high power will reliably improve an existing mutation set as long as there are some bad ones in there to work with. A mutation-free character is less likely to get good results.

Water potions are still worthless.

Hm. So a transmuter can get a solid amount of Wonder Decks from killing off a bunch of Ugly Things and bottling their remains and sacrificing it to nemelex?

yes. actually, since Fulsome Distillation is a level one spell virtually any spellcaster following nemelex should learn it if they get the option. Partially for wonder decks and partially because you can suck down a bunch of mutation potions and get a good set and then take out potentially crippling negative mutations with helix cards.
