[CIP] DDEEof Kiku, trapped outside Lair by killer bees

Here's a Deep Dwarf Earth Elementalist I've been playing. The plan was to start with Earth Magic and later branch into Necromancy with Kiku in order to have a broader range of spellcasting options than the standard DDNe. It's worked pretty well so far -- I was lucky enough to get Carnivore 1 early on, so I can spam Sublimation-fueled LRD without worrying too much about spell hunger, and that's made short work of most of what I've seen so far. Plus, casting Petrify on high-HP monsters like Hippogriffs and Ogres and repeatedly using Vamp. Draining does wonders for my troublesome health bar.
Unfortunately, I've run into some trouble in the Lair. Right after stepping down the stairway, I was attacked by a horrifically large swarm of killer bees that chased me out so soundly I'm afraid to return. Barring a lucky find of Ignite Poison or the like, is there a good way to deal with them, or should I just put the Lair off until later and do more Dungeon levels or the Orcish Mines? I usually only make it to about halfway through the Lair anyway, so I'm not sure exactly how to progress.

Yeah, 5(8) AC and a crudload of bees don't mix :/ Definately put it off for a bit, don't know how long honestly.

If you need to go down, get a bunch of teleport and/or blink scrolls and healing potions.

Read a teleport scroll prior to branch entrance.
Tap the spacebar twice.
Enter the branch and cross your fingers. Works better with a Ring of Teleportion Control.

Also make sure you have Animate Dead because dead bee zombies.

Also Lee's Rapid Deconstruction.

At worst, wear your amulet of rage and stay near an exist so you can berserk to run away (or as a last ditch attack, which is what I do because I'm cray-zay).

Course your tele could leave you immediately next to some bees, gauranteeing your death :/ I wouldn't try it until you have at least two tele scrolls and a blink scroll. Or enough AC and spammals to stair dance or something.

You might try building up a stack of Large Abominations outside of lair, then returning. You have a spellbook with it and you should be able to caste it acceptably. They are undead (hence poison-immune) and should be able to beat down killer bees for you. I would not try this without a way to deal with walking down the stairs into a bunch of bees surrounding you, though, and how well it will work will depend on the layout around the entrance (for how many abominations you can take down; you can probably clear space upstairs with dig/lrd).

I just found the entrance to a ziggurat. Is it better to put it off for a long time or to raid the first few levels early? How tough is it initially?

Unless I'm mistaken, the content of each level is random; they just get bigger and bigger. So if a couple greater mumies or pan lords would be a problem for you, don't go in.
