YAVP: OgDK of Yredelemnul

Finally a win that's cool enough to report again! (because noone would want to here about my boring MfSk, HEWn-FE, and HaHe)

I think I have a few things to say about Yredelemnul. He's often unpopular for no reason, at least nowadays. Pain Mirror is extremely useful against early ogres/uniques/orc wizards, Drain Life shines even in places as late as Slime (actually, one of the best places for it), and I had six Bone Dragons and three Profane Servitors which trivialised Zot. Including Zot:5. Over the course of the end vault I merely lost one servitor and one bone dragon, and one bone dragon in a nasty Zot:1 vault. Where I lost them was on the Orb run when I just flung them at every Pandemonium lord while I chillingly walked past whacking them to death en passant.
Yredelemnul is great with races like Tr, Ce, Og or Dr (high HP, low defence) because being like that makes Pain Mirror and Drain Life even better than usual.

Regarding the course of the game, I focussed heavily on Maces&Flails, had a Giant Spiked Club at +4 and 10 delay on D:9, mastered Maces&Flails on Orc:3 at Level 15, trained Fighting and Armour from that point on. I came across a labyrinth around D:15 which had a Gold Dragon Armour in it so my fragility problems were solved. Two wands of healing in V. Lucky enchants that made the GSC +9/+9 around late-Dungeon, where I finally found Freezeing Aura. I can't complain regarding gear. :)
Only thing that was a bit disappointing was acquirement; while I got 3 scrolls early the first two armour pieces were rubbish. The third (a +1 cloak with +Blink) was decent but nothing overwhelming.

I like entering a new level with a whole undead army, (t)elling them to (w)ait and let them wander freely. This gives more experience and less tedium in combat (you can recall them whenever you want anyway).

Because I really dislike Swamp I decided to go for Slime instead.

I think he meant he wanders them in a safe area while he goes off and gets all the exp, only calling in the troops when needed, or when going down a level. Also if you see messages indicating they are in trouble you can recall them as well.

Bone Dragons are pretty unlikely to die (in addition to what AtT pointed out) and it's not like an OgDK who has three high skills, and two low skills (I only raised Invocations further than 13 when I had nothing better to do in Zot) and Ogre's experience aptitude (110) has too many experience problems.
At least before Zot (where they do lose their shine a bit, due to no rF+) profane servitors are even harder to get killed since they have really high HP and a vampiric high-damage attack.

Why'd you unlearn Freezing Aura again? It's not like you were hurting for spell slots...

No reason - but I wasn't actually casting the spell anyway, I just vorpalised my GSC. It was at "Useless" sucess anyway of course.
Probably it was just "oh, IDed amnesia" or something. :)

Badass.

I have a zotsplat and an orb run death with Yred in 0.9, and the trauma caused me to give Him a bit of a rest. But this is a good story :)
