Saw a link posted about a DCSS discord that runs little weekly challenges, and this week's was a BaGl, on a seeded run with seed 6082020. No limits on tries, so after a few deaths I came up with this build for a 15 rune win. Was trying to keep the turn count reasonable, but ended up going to 90k actions, so not terribly fast. There were a few things that slowed me down, but let's start from the beginning...
As this was a seeded run, the temple was always found on D:6, and doesn't have Chei. The only chei altar was on d:9, and having gotten there, worshipped, and gone through the mid game...there was no statue form either. I decided to abandon chei for sif, and starting rebuilding piety, when I died due to the power drop of losing Chei. Since a Sif altar was found super early on d:3, I decided to fix both problems by just worshipping sif first, and farming spells before going to Chei. This was helped by an early faith amulet as well, so getting statue form was pretty quick, even if it did take until around the 4th book gift to get it. I actually was gifted controlled blink before statue form, but hey, as long as you end up with both.
Immediately switched back to Chei, got statue form online, and then proceeded to pound faces for the rest of the game. Got both controlled blink and revivification online, although I never ended up using revivification. Got badly mutated in Zot and ended up having to do all of extended with -20/-30% hp, and inhibited regeneration. This was a significant slowdown in terms of going for a high score, although I hadn't really been very fast in the first 5 runes either, so this was never going to be a really fast run.
Not being able to regen at all while fighting mummy packs in tombs is one scary situation, and I honestly would have probably skipped it if it wasn't for having controlled blink around to get to stairs. CBlink is even more powerful when mixed with Barachi hop, as you don't really need the first hop to be accurate when you're going to Cblink to the hatch next turn. Gives you amazing range and the ability to rapidly be 20-30 tiles away in just 3-4 turns. A great way to reset fights against bosses like Lom Loban, who I had to approach about 3 times before getting him alone and being able to keep him near me instead of blinking everywhere.
Replaying the same seed and seeing the same items and monster locations felt weird, and did get a bit more repetitive than just starting up new games. Fortunately I only had to restart a handful of times to get the win
