YASD: DrCj^Veh: Go Earth?

This guy just reached Lair:6.
Until now, I've been trying to get Force Lance and IMB up to full power by training Conjurations and, to a lesser extent, Translocations, but haven't got there yet.
(I find I'm using Force Lance a lot because it gets melee nasties like death yaks away from me.)

However, Vehumet recently offered me LRD, and I am a grey draconian with Earth aptitude +2.
Also, I have Vile Clutch in my library which is Earth/Necro.

So.....what do you think? Keep training Conjurations/Translocations? Switch to Earth? Do both?

Definitely train earth, the +2 aptitude allows easy access to some of the best single target spells in the game. In terms of keeping the nasties away (or inside a damaging cloud), BVC is the way to go. It also destroys the EV values of anything caught in the area, so think of it as "now stand still while I prepare this IMB/Iron Shot for you".

As for Translocations training, put it on hold once you reach 8 ranks in it. For now, that's more than enough to get by.

Edit: LRD can also be used to outright explode susceptible enemies to death in one cast at high #. This includes statues, all skeletons and even curse skulls.

Both LRD and Vile Clutch are amazing in certain circumstances, and remain relevant throughout the game.
If you go earth you'll also be building up towards Shatter, which is also a great spell.

Looks like yours is way ahead of mine.

Mine is now dead. He went downstairs and Frances was standing right next to the stairs. He went back up, but Frances followed and summoned a bunch of stuff. Couldn't get away fast enough.

No point in even being sad, this was just a greed-induced splat.

You had a good build going, it's really interesting to look at the differences in terms of spells in hindsight. I might go for Force Lance in another game, you really got a lot of use out of it. On the bright side, I get to fight a ghost with Shatter and OOD at some point in the future. You might end up against a ghost that has confuse, IMB and VDrain. Merry thoughts all around.

@Sorcerous: Why did you have a +0 bluckler on a xl 27 character? (even if it did give Strength +4)

It was better than nothing, and a few reflected shots here and there did add to my kill potential (Boris offed himself with Iron Shot). I didn't want to put in the XP to upgrade to a medium shield, getting the higher level spells under 10% was much more important (for all the good they did). There was a nice randart shield earlier in the game, but the "Ezeghod" ring was more useful with no skill investment.

To be fair, it was probably just one of the inventory blunders that happened.

Don't forget that ghost Stone Arrow does insane damage!
