So this is the farthest I've gotten and I'm not really sure how I should go about advancing and preparing for my 3rd rune and the orb, particularly in terms of gear and spells, but also what branches to do. What spells would be good to find/learn? I have a book shop with books of Summonings, Party Tricks, Enchantments, Power, Necromancy, and Conjurations, as well as a randart book with Lee's Rapid Deconstruction and Alistair's Intoxication for ~1000g. There's a couple books being guarded by an Orange Crystal Statue on D7, so I was considering going for LRD to kill that and get them, otherwise Animate Skeleton has been the mvp of my Swamp and Snakes runs, so would Animate Dead be a worthwhile spell to buy?

I was going to swap out my rPois ring for the +5 Int one assuming most of the poison enemies are done now, would the AC or EV ring be better to wear? I also can buy a ring of magical power for 340g, or a Wiz ring for 600g, otherwise there's the ring "Hinwusch" {Wiz rF- Dex+8 Slay-2 Stlth+} guarded by that same OC Statue. Some other noticeable items I can buy are the +4 gloves "Raqinear" {rF+ rN++ Str-2} 582g, an embroidered hat 189g, Maxwell's Thermic Engine 1628g, amulet of Bixtug {Faith MR+ Str+2 Slay+6} 1398g.
Would a -2 to strength affect my ability to wear my fire dragon scales, or am I better off wearing something else?
The ring, gloves, and amulet cancel out each other's demerits, though I don't have enough gold and I'm not sure if I'd want to replace my amulet.

And lastly are any of my weapons worth enchanting? I think I only have 1 scroll. Should I be on the lookout for a better weapon?

You should be able to take out the Orange Crystal Statue with Airstrike, because it doesn't regenerate.
If you commit to using magic, with cursed-on rings of wiz (Hinwusch) and a cursed-on stave, you should be able to cast Ignition, Shatter, and Tornado fairly quickly. If you go that path you'll be very short on spell slots. You might also suffer a lot of spell hunger. If you don't melee much, Hinwusch seems better than a plain ring of wiz.
OTOH, I think you could have a very nice game with Maxwell's Thermic Engine and Bixtug. You'll get enough money to afford both of them eventually :) If you curse on Maxwell's Thermic Engine, it will be pretty close to mindelay.

A common strategy with Ashenzari is to leave one ring slot uncursed, so you can wear a strong general-purpose ring but still instantly swap to a resistance when needed (as non-Ash characters do, if they remember to). I don't think a ring of magical power would be worth wearing, let alone buying. Wizardry might be good as a way to reach up to higher level spells, but probably isn't a lot better than the rings you already have. The randart wizardry ring is very unimpressive and probably worse than a regular wizardry ring, because slaying hugely affects your attack damage (though how much that matters is up to your play style). Speaking of slaying, that randart amulet has a ton of it, so I'd probably buy that.

Strength multiplies your base weapon damage, which is insignificant with the fire staff (almost all of the damage comes from the on-hit effect). It also reduces your armour penalty, which has a small effect on spell success and evasion. However your current spells are all in 1% territory, so you don't need to worry about spell success unless you're reaching for a higher level spell, and even then, 2 str doesn't make much difference.

Maxwell's Thermic Engine is powerful but so is your staff of fire; I'm guessing the thermic engine is somewhat better, but if you buy that you can't afford the amulet. Anyhow, none of your other weapons are impressive.

Those gloves are also pretty good because of the high enchantment on them, but again if you buy that you can't afford the amulet.

Has the game not generated a helmet? Helmets are way better than hats because they have 1 base AC, which turns into 1.6 AC or so at your current armour skill, plus enchantment. Hats only have enchantment.

LRD sounds a bit pointless between fireball and airstrike. Animate Dead is indeed strong if you have the knowhow and patience to use it; and if you're getting mileage out of Animate Skeleton, you do. However, the book of summonings also offers powerful allies, and mana vipers are probably stronger than zombies. The book of enchantments has fear, silence, and deflect missiles, which are handy but situational. What is best is going to be up to your playstyle. It's always painful that gnolls have the skills to do it all, but not the spell slots.

I think there was maybe one or two in Swamp. I didn't bother with them at the time since my hat was cursed and I didn't want to waste scrolls and mess around with trying them on in the middle of clearing it, but I'll go back and check them.

Deflect missiles sounds nice, my only option for ranged enemies is to block with undead, out dps, or run. It's what made Snake so much more difficult at first for me than Swamp. Though I suppose summons would be good for that too.

Other than that are there any spells I should forget? Maybe Magic Dart and Call Imp? Is Yara's any good, I only used it one time against a hasted Nagaraja so I don't have much of a metric to work off of.

And thanks for the advice :D

Edit: I checked and there was a +1 helmet, I also realized I forgot that I can buy a cloak of the Thief for about 300g. Would the fog effect of that be useful enough to outweigh the -2 slaying?

I was aiming to play more spell focused, but I have been melee-ing a decent amount, though mostly stabbing or with a trident behind undead or flames. And I do have a staff of air I could use to take out the OC Statue, would it's summon's be much of a worry? The wiki says their strength is determined by dungeon level, so I assume they wouldn't be too strong on level 7? Also it only attacks on LOS right? Could I dig and apport the items?

The first vault is completely safe. Walk 1 tile into LOS, damage it, when summons get dangerous walk away, do something else whilst the summons time out, repeat.

The second vault is potentially dangerous, because you can't run away easily. I don't know how comfortable you are fighting fire giants and trolls. The statue can be incapacitated with confusing touch (wich is worth learning IMO) or killed quickly with melee / non-elemental damage / LRD. If you're comfortable meleeing a fire giant, you should be comfortable meleeing the statue.

If you want to be spell focussed, don't worry too much about slaying. Negative slaying will force you to use magic :)

The orange crystal statue summons, confuses, and drains int (as you know, stat drain is temporary and is undone as you gain experience). You can ignore or retreat to deal with the summons (shadow creatures just summons regular spawns from that level, so yeah, D:7 monsters should be pretty easy), drink curing against confusion, and you have enough int to probably not worry about int drain (you just don't want it to get to 0). You've got to handle all that while also making sure to not drown in the deep water. But yes, it's definitely doable, and yes definitely use a staff of air if you can for extra airstrike spellpower. The crystal ball there might be a handy item to loot as well.

Fighting a fire giant, an obsidian statue, and a deep troll (and a regular troll) at the same time sounds pretty hairy, especially since the statue resists fire and poison so you can't damage it in an aoe. However you have a lot of fire resistance, and you should have good odds of enslaving the deep troll with your wand. With that in mind I would give it a shot, and teleport out at the first sign of trouble (2/3 HP is a good rule of thumb).

If you don't use attacks to kill hard enemies, then your attack damage is not going to matter much for you, in which case don't spend all that gold on the weapon or the slaying amulet. You'll probably be more interested in the gloves and a book, but see what you can get from the orange crystal statue vault (and maybe the other vault) first.

You can probably forget call imp. And with confuse, you can probably forget ensorcelled hibernation. Magic dart of course is pretty useless, but it's only 1 spell slot and you probably want to use your precious amnesia scrolls to get more. Yara's is situational but extremely strong against enemies that do buff themselves, so I personally would keep it but it definitely costs a lot of spell slots.
