YAVP:MiBe with Axes

Hey Guys,

Running an MiBe with Axes in 0.23 alongside my 0.22 DEFE. Just came across the Lernean Hydra on Swamp:4.

What do you think, go nuts on it with might and Berserk? I have a cold branded weapon which wil slow it. Or do something else? I've never fought Lerny before on anything other than ranged blaster mages (Which make him pretty trivial)

Thoughts?

You may be okay mighting and berserking the hydra but its pretty risky. I'd probably read scroll of torment at max range, summon BIAs (one or two) and use the wand of acid to kill it. Avoid fighting in or having the lerny hydra in water when engaging. I'd also recommmend training a few evocation levels as well as it helps improve damage of wands and other evokables.

I remember getting absolutely destroyed when I melee'd the Hydra with a similar character. That was a Formicide though, and if he hadn't been there would have been enough time to teleport away.
You kindof have to take him out though, because he's fast and he's very good at tracking you. Even after a teleport, I remember him beelining towards me.
I would delay Lerna as long as possible, and make sure you have good escape options. With wands / javelins + one or 2 Brothers in Arms you should be able to kill it, if you can prevent the hydra from killing your summons, I think.

Lerny has next to no EV or AC. BiA and some ranged hits are likely to kill it in a few turns. @Magipi does make an interesting point about the mirrors, you could also use one of them.

Why is it too late to switch to TSO? Crypt is enough to get to full piety, and after crypt there's still a bits of Zot, Slime and Hell which are relatively safe. (Says me who died from god wrath in Slime once.)

To elaborate on my earlier post, I had a tricky situation with the orb chamber. Teleport trap on one side, Zot trap on the other side.

I was standing outside the chamber shouting to try and draw out enemies a few at a time and an orb guardian stepped on a dispersal trap inside the chamber. This teleported me inside the chamber with the only escape being through a Zot trap...

I managed to stay inside the chamber despite dealing with a hoarde of enemies, including taking on 3 ancient liches and an orb of fire at the same time.
