I really don't know how to develop this character.
What spells are worth learning?
What should I train?
At the moment, I'm training Spellcasting and Conjurations focussed, and fighting and dodging unfocussed (for some HP and EV, so I don't turn him into a "glass cannon").
Does this sound reasonable?
Also, I just saw Terence the Incautious. Would it be incautious to attack ol' Terry? Or should I go for it?

IMB is main spell in Lair so you should work on it. I believe it is optimal to play as glass cannon until that spell is online.
You can try killing Terence, just don't let him get adjacent and then you can retreat upstairs if needed.

Your skilling is fine. As for Terence or any early unique, you don't have to obliterate every potential enemy you encounter. The main objectives right now are (in order of importance) :
1) survive
2) worship
Being a glass cannon is a fact of life with a casting background. Spellcasters are bullies of the early game: unless you're mostly sure you can push others around, don't. You'll get your teeth broken. Or in the case of crawling: "You die..."

Thanks for the advice.
I killed Terry. Natasha and Crazy Yuif were on the same level. I left them alone.
Ijyb was on the next level. I tried to avoid him, but he ambushed me. I managed to beat him though.
Also, I'm now a green draconian.
Any advice on gods?

OK. I'll keep an eye out for a Vehumet altar.
IMB is online now. Me likey. I one-shotted one of those green-robed orcish bastards with it.
I'm on D:6 now. Sigmund is creeping around on this level. I've run away from him 3 times already.
Any advice for dealing with him...or just avoid?

Confused him with my super-halitosis breath and then hit him with a couple of Mystic Blasts.

(I was thinking of training short blades because I've had quite a bit of success confusing monsters with my breath and then getting stabby with them).

At this point it is up to you, there is no single optimal path. You can branch into other magic schools, you can become a hybrid, you can be a stabber with shield, you can be a stabber with 2h long blade for conventional melee etc.
Edit. Personally I would train at least some M&F for +1 whip of electrocution, it is really great when you run out of MP.

You always want to keep in mind the main imminent threats, which in lair are black mambas and spiny frogs. They're poison resistant, so confusion clouds won't work on them. In a 1-on-1 with full health and mana you can nuke one to death, so you're okay, as long as you stay mindful of your situation. The rime drakes can also screw with you since they do cold damage (you're a draconian, so you're cold blooded, so cold damage can slow you), but they're not poison resistant so you have an easy answer. You probably know about hydras, and they're poison resistant; just walk away.
I suggest you memorize conjure flame. If you don't know how to use it, experiment with it; you can use it to block off key enemy positions, and getting an enemy to stand in the cloud for multiple turns is massive damage. Animate Skeleton is a strong spell but kind of annoying to use, you could try that out too if you want.
Confusion clouds (and confusion in general) are really strong, regardless of which means of attack you are using. What I'm getting at is, there's no reason at all for you to be thinking about short blades. Your best weapon is either the scimitar of flaming or the whip of electrocution, not sure which. The spear and trident are also okay. You'll do much better with any of those than with a +0 dagger.
As for skills, I advise against investing skill in a weapon, since it's redundant with the powerful way of killing things that you already have (mystic blast and searing ray). I also advise against investing in magic skills for now, since you don't have any worthwhile bigger spells to train for (unless you want a little necromancy for animate skeleton / animate dead). What I would do is get a few cheap levels of evocations (I'd get 5), since you have a wand of enslavement (in addition to some other wands). Enslavement is incredibly powerful in most situations where you are threatened by two or more enemies, and the other wands have their uses as well. After that, I'd invest in more dodging until a buckler or a good spell is found.

I'd consider using Fulminant Prism, Blink, Conjure Flame, and poison magic (Venom Bolt mainly)
Prism provides very nice area damage, though it is a bit loud and you need to pay attention where to place the prism. It's even good against hydra's, particularly in combination with Blink, if I recall correctly.
Poison magic will make many enemies which you can already kill easily even easier to kill. Sometimes it's not worth it.
I usually pick up the first 3 or so levels of magic skills which I'm using but aren't my main focus, because they're cheap.

Thanks all once again for the advice.
There are a few fun-sounding spells there I want to try out. Mmmmmm....Fulminant Prism *drools*.
Spellcasters are way more fun than melee dudes. Spells are fun, plus you need to think about different strategies for different monsters depending on resistances, etc.
Probably will go for a buckler if I can find one. I was carrying around a +2 shield for a while with the intention of training for it, but then I read somewhere that you need 15 shields skill to offset the spellcasting penalty on a shield, which seems like way too much investment that could be put into other more important things for this character, but only 4 for a buckler, which is reasonable.
Also, I think I need to lose those gloves I've got on. I'm wearing them for the rN++, but the fact that they can corrode me when I take damage is a worry. It doesn't trigger that often, but if it happened in a big fight it could be really bad news.

Snakes, frogs, and hydras can all be dazzled. Unless you've significantly greater AC/HP, I wouldn't try to dazzle-stab hydras in lair. Often by the time you're doing swamp you can, however.
Mephitic cloud + dazzling spray is an excellent stabbing combo and will trash most non-undead/plant things for stabbers until the game is almost over.

She *summoned* a lindworm, which is instant "nope" for this XL with no rF+. Your best bet was to immediately get away from that, reset the fight, and tag her with mephitic before she gets summons off using a corner to block LoS. This has just under 25% chance to confuse/turn. Could then just IMB until she dies or gets confused for a stab.
Also if you're about to die you might as well chug heal wounds + resistance and such. They don't do anything for a dead character.
