My TrCj is dead to Joseph. Two zaps of wand of acid and the final hit with a staff. After the first zap instead of teleportation I repositioned myself, I thought that Joseph would spare the life of a poor fellow orc behind my back. But nope:
  Code:
Joseph zaps a wand. The bolt of acid hits you! The acid corrodes you!
You are splashed with acid! The acid burns!
* * * LOW HITPOINT WARNING * * *
The bolt of acid hits the orc. The orc is splashed with acid.
The orc dies!

And then he killed Me through my invisibility.

Mistakes were made:
  • my consumables were barely identified;
  • should've used that invisibility immediately;
  • didn't even remember about Oka's abilities (not that it would've mattered: as it turned out, I lost that initial star while running around).
So, what's the lesson? Don't play while distracted and hungry.

I know many players will disagree but the character was also killed by large shield.

Having watched this particular death, I don't think the shield made much of a difference in either direction.

The shield removed several points of EV and slowed down attacks while SH was completely useless vs wand which dealt most damage as far as I understand.
Too bad we cannot use fsim vs wand attacks.

Well, while those factors may have contributed to the death in question, it was still the right decision to *be using* the shield, as on average, vs jospeh, a shield will block a lot of damage. Even in this particular case, there was a good chance that joseph would've shot his sling or swung his quarterstaff instead of firing the wand of acid, since there's no way to predict in advance that he'd take the wand action instead of the firing/attacking action, or even that you'd be likely to run into joseph with a wand.

Probably. EV 6, SH 14 and slow attacks vs EV 10(or is it 11?) and higher Dodging/Fighting
