I GUESS IT WAS CONFUSED??? I was like, whew, that awful fight is over now. Let's retreat up the stairs to rest and-WHY???? The only reason my situation was so awful to start with is because every stair down to that floor went into an open room with tons of enemies.

Just got Vile Clutch under 10%, was looking forward to things going smoothly until Vehumet gifted me some earth spells. Why do all my casters die terrible, terrible deaths?

My guess: Just before dying, the orc wizard managed to confuse the guardian serpent zombie, which wandered around randomly, stepping onto the MuNe and dealing the lethal blow.
