This is not surprising, you are expected to clear Lair 1-6 before you enter D:13.

It is optimal to go back, Depths entry can be very nasty.

Lair -> D:12 -> Orc -> D:15 -> S:3 -> maybe other S:3 -> maybe Elf:1-2 -> get one S rune -> Vaults:4 -> get second S rune -> maybe Crypt -> Depths:5 -> get three runes -> Zot ("S" means Shoals/Snake/Spider/Swamp)

It can be different with Beogh as the chance to convert orcs depends on XL and piety so I usually try to enter it later than usually and then retreat back to dungeon after getting enough followers.

This lair thing seems like a breeze for now.
Beogh seems to be ultra happy with me, he just told me to burn all the non believers.
Also, I found the swamp. Not gonna enter it until things get to difficult with the lair.

Some things to watch out for in Lair:
  • Hydras will grow heads if you use a non-flaming chopping weapon on them.
  • Catoblepas will breathe dust at you that will turn you to stone. You have exactly one action to step out of the dust before petrification starts.
  • Blink frogs come in packs and hit surprisingly hard. Komodo dragons and spiny frogs hit surprisingly hard too.
  • You can tab through a pack of yaks, but you can't tab through a pack of death yaks. Lure to break packs of these up.
  • Black mambas are fast and evasive and can poison you through rPois.
  • Rupert is exceedingly dangerous if he appears. Snorg nearly as much so.
  • If you see hogs, be aware of Kirke. If you see wraiths, be aware of Josephine.

Didn't see Kirke, probably killed Josephine, easily dealt with hydras(My entire squad had maces, lel).

At the end of this, I've found an entrance to the depths, cleared lair, didn't find orc base, have 2 warlords, a bunch of knights and no priests.
Found a death knight tho, killed it with 3 smites.
Smite is awesome.
I lost a knight as soon as I entered the snake pits, so I was like lel fuck this and got the f out.

"tab" refere to prsssing [Tab] as a shortcut for "attack the closest, meanest baddie with currently wielded weapon." "To Tab" means to blow through an easy combat without thinking by pressing [Tab] repeatedly until everything is dead.

Ok, thanks. I don't tab, then. I just look at the enemies and kill the ones I want.
Also, do axes' cleave harm friends and should I give a +3 war axe of poison to a follower?
And did the orc base not spawn and can it spawn in the deeper levels?

Axe cleaving don't harm allies, however you should give polearms (possibly 1h such as tridents or spear) to your follower because two lines of orcs attacking together is better than 1 line, how good shield are for orc follower and how delay on weapon works on npc.

Orc like any other branch always spawn in a fixed range of a dungeon. For orc mines is in Dungeon: 9 -12. You can check this in game using the command ctrl-o : it's the overview of the dungeon and will display all the branches you should have find by the depth you reached. In this case for example, you should see Orc Mines (D:9-12) in gray and others like Snake Pits in yellow with the precise floor where it is.

You should go back and check if you fully explored the levels between D:9 and 12, maybe at the time there was a dangerous enemy and you skipped part of a level. Otherwise, it is possible there is a disconnected part of level you haven't still visited: check if you went go and up of every staircase: there are 3 for level (escape hatches don't matter). At least in titles, unexplored one are marked with a golden * symbol.

Welp, I died.
This was a totally avoidable death, even by my standards.
So yea, I found the orc mines, cleared the first two levels, found the entrance to the elven halls, cleared floors 1 and 2. Was halfway through soloclearing the third when I died.
It was the wand of digging that the other guys had that killed me, it just opened up so much space for their earth elementals, it wasn't even funny.
I could've lived, but I didn't, I dunno why I chose to fight them instead of popping me teleport and returning to fight them later.
As predicted, this guy is my highest character yet, 162500 score, while my second highest scorer was 31000.
Gonna change the name to YASD.

You should check Felid's recommended branch order, and note that it doesn't even contain Elf:3, reason being that it's much more dangerous than the preceding levels.

Just FYI, the earth elementalist elves dont have a wand of digging, they have a spell, so you can expect to encounter that tactic every time unless you can kill them very fast without hiding. The deep troll elementalists do the same thing in the depths. Fun times.
