The majority of my acquirements are for either armour or jewellery. I'd be split 50/50 in this case. There's room for a nice randart along with a good chance of getting complete junk either way.

I think I'd go for jewellery, but that's just me.

I'd go with weapon, there's a good chance you'll get a (possibly good) lajatang and you can reskill shield somewhere else, because staff of earth is bad as damage stick.

Otherwise armor, you have already good aux as most enchanted but you could get something better, while it's hard to get some better rings of yours (how ever amulet is bad and anything would be better)

Anyway I wonder why you're asking a question like that, I think you are experienced enough to know what's better to acquire

1) If there's an item in a shop that I absolutely want but can't afford -> gold
2) If I want a better melee weapon -> weapon
3) If I'm with Fedhas -> fruit
4) Armour, unless I'm a Fe, in which case Evokables.

I like getting other opinions just to see what other people might think of that I didn't, besides I was going to bed :)

I prefer sticking with the shield, it keeps a significant amount of damage off me. Bashing things with the staff is totally a convenience/MP saver, I already had 20 earth and 10 evocation when I got it, so dropping min delay points into staves was a tiny expenditure for the added convenience.

Mostly I'm killing dangerous things with conjurations and stabbing (my most-used spell is petrify) and while the staff isn't awesome damage (Certainly not end-game primary-offense worthy) it's good enough for non-dangerous chaff (I was killing vanilla Nagas in Snake with 2-3 hits, which is effective enough for a not-primary offense in my book). If I want to kill something dangerous I do it with iron shot/LRD/petrify+stab or even "hit it with my venom dagger once or twice and ignite poison on it" (Which isn't really particularly more effective than the other options, but it is amusing) or if it's a super nasty group I can use brilliance and/or wizardy and smack things down with shatter (Fairly soon I won't need those to cast shatter at all.)

Take a look at my actions table to get a sense of how I'm using my skills.

Well, so what's available amulet wise is:
Faith -- I don't spam ash's abilities enough to have the piety gain be worth very much, I scry when I feel like it'd help me, but generally speaking the passives do most of the work for me. Maybe I should use scry more than I do, but so far, terrain has been in my favor such that it hasn't been especially useful
Guardian spirit -- I don't take much damage, and when I do I need MP to kill things that are dangerous, therefore GS, while a good amulet, is a little risky for characters who use
HpRegen -- Again, I don't take much damage, while a good amulet (particularly in the abyss, I may swap out for this when I get the abyssal rune) however in the usual case, one more iron shot is worth more than 10 more hps in a given fight.
Rage -- I am not really using my weapons for primary damage, and when I need to berserk, I have potions.
What hasn't generated yet:
Reflection -- Ego is duplicated by my shield.
Harm -- no.
Gourmond -- Hahahah, Also no.

Jewelry acquirement might also generate an rC+ ring (Which hasn't dropped so far) Which is probably the only "plain" item that would be useful to drop out the armour/weapons categories

So yeah, armour gives me a 'maybe an upgrade for a few slots' since much of my aux armour is without any ego (And the cloak is effectively no-ego, since gargoyles are poison-immune), and jewelry gives me "maybe an upgrade , maybe a missing ring"

I've mostly ruled out acquiring weapons (as I said, I have a better primary offense in spells right now, and dropping 10-20% of my defense to make my secondary offense slightly better doesn't sound very appealing) and Armour sounds more likely to generate something useful than jewelry given the current set of things that are available.

I *could* shift over to primary-offense melee (one of the things about ash is the ability to be malleable with your XP expenditure) however for an EE, my available spell set is pretty close to Ideal (There's no statue form yet, which is of dubious use in any case, and no LCS, which is only marginally better than iron shot. If I want them, bolt of magma and spellforged servitor are in spellbooks already) So I don't see much point in doing so (I haven't seen any amazing body armours or weapons drop that call for such a dramatic shift, and I don't see much point in using acquirement in an effort to create one)

I'm probably going to go with armour

Mine is similar (sometimes I'll acquire gold to buy "maybe upgrades" from antique shops too) I rarely acquire fruit, generally speaking if I'm with Fedhas I am conservative enough with my fruit that I almost never run out.
And I do evaluate kind of an 'upper bounds' for quality for weapon/armour, generally I prioritize weapon>armour>jewelry, but if my weapon is already pretty good, and I'm not likely to do better (Or it's not my primary offense) I skip weapon to armour, and if my armour is sufficiently good that I'm not likely to do better then I go to jewelry (and if I'm not likely to do better than *that* I go back up the chain :)

Which I consider an upgrade from a reflection shield.

Also FWIW: The earth staff isn't even a "bad damage stick" with the skills I had trained. It's just not like, end-game primary-weapon worthy, and definitely not worth investing the XP for if you weren't already training earth magic and evocation for other reasons.

With my current skills a staff of earth barely out damages a +9 laja of flaming against a stone giant. If I increase my staves to get min delay on the laja (12->14), it overtakes the staff of earth by a small margin. (The staff of earth is still slightly better against low-ac critters, it still does more damage against a hydra for example) and when compared to one-handed weapons, with my already very very large investment in earth/evocations, it even beats out demon weapons at min delay.

As you can see, the staff of earth (with my current earth/evocations) beats both by a small margin.

It's also notably worse than the other elemental staves that do damage (fire/cold/air/death) against things that have AC (But better than say a staff of fire against fire-resistant things) However there's a lot more things that have AC than have fire resistance.

TlDr: Staff of earth is not actually terrible as a backup weapon, it's not as good as your top-tier two-handed weapons, and it takes MUCH more XP to achieve the same goal as the top-tier one-handed weapons (which is fine if you were spending the XP on those things anyway) and is somewhat worse than the other enhancer staffs (because it loses some extra damage from everything with AC, instead of only a subset of resistant things)

I'd go armour. Hoping for a Wizardry robe or armour with int+. It's nice casting level 9's hungerless. And, two enhancers for earth or air is always great.
