First time playing HO, Fi or Yred, advice welcome.

Just finished Lair, doing Orc next. Then Spider, then Shoals.

There's a +0 Crystal Plate Armor in a shop somewhere for 1700 gold that I might buy. Good idea? Bad idea?

Also not sure what I'm doing with skills. Also, not sure if I should be memorizing some of these spells. Blink might be useful, but if I wear that CPA...

Seems like a straight up fight might go either way. Probably should retreat. Options?

Option 1: activate pain mirror, summon my dudes, swing away with the axe, and run upstairs at 30% health or less.
Option 2: get out of here, explore Dungeon a couple more levels, buy the CPA, come back and do it when better prepped.

EDIT2: When in doubt, come back later. Cleared a couple of levels of D, came back with profane servitors in tow, a lowly L11 player ghost was no match.

Yup, and that's the same army that saved my butt when I got brainlessed in Zot:5.

2 OOF and one ALich, and me brainless, I thought I was dead for sure, but I hit Recall undead servants, hasted, and ran while the OOFs chewed through my dudes. They died to the last man while defending their master. .

So, if I had killed Mennas, I might not have had enough dudes to save my butt at the end. Good things to think about.

I wonder if enslaved Mennas would make some questionable decisions on when to cast silence? . I can see him getting you killed if he casts it on the orb run at some Pan Lord or any nasty mob whose gimmick attack is uneffected by silence.

I don't think Mennas would have spammed his spells. Spectral creatures tend to cast less than their originals for some reason, I think their targetting gets wonky when not used against the player. I enslaved Josephine and was anticipating a lot of delicious negative energy fireball awesomeness healing my army while damaging my enemies (I had rN+++ available and wasn't afraid of friendly fire), but she never cast anything the whole time. Much disappointment.

Best success (ironically, since I was a HO that didn't worship Beogh) was with Saint Roka, he does love to smite a bunch. And his battlecry works on phantasmal warriors (and only them) for some reason.

They have the fighter flag. Could that be the reason? Otherwise, this is pretty strange, battlecry is supposed to work on lower HD natural allies.
