YAZ5D GhGl^Trog (was: Which Lajatang?)

I am trying again to win Gh. This staves and bows melee character has finished Lair, Orc and Dungeon. It has a +5 lajatang of speed, and a +2 vampiric lajatang. I have put a few enchant scrolls into the speed lajatang since I have the impression that it's one of the best weapons in the game. I am beginning to have second thoughts, however, since by experimentation I find that long fights with the vampiric lajatang consistently end with me have much better health, whereas the speed lajatang has had me needing to bail early on a fight a couple times. Given that I'm a ghoul so the vampiric lajatang does not take the bow away from me, I am wondering whether I might be better off getting it to +9 first. Trog has not given me a longbow yet, but I think that one of these two excellent lajatangs is where I ought to spend my scrolls, and let my launcher be whatever Trog eventually gives me. I am aiming for four or five runes, depending on whether I feel like risking Abyss when the time comes.

The vampiric is going to be absolutely better in any fight with applicable targets, the only time the speed lajatang is better is against monster types that completely deny healing from vampiric branded weapons used against them. In a 3-5 rune run there's no contest, imo dump every scroll into vamp and never let go.

What bp said, and +5 speed and the antimagic one that Trog will surely drop on you soon are strong and as a Ghoul you can swap freely from vampiric.

I've used the vampiric lajatang to finish Swamp and Spider. Trog came through on the launcher, but still no ?EW since the OP. Used speed on a few emperor scorpions, then vamp, and it was a wash. Did use speed for the scarab beetle Spider rune vault. Vaults next, but opportunities to play will be had to come by this upcoming week.

Sorry. Probably you should spend more consumables, potion of haste is very useful when you are slowed. Didn't you have amulet of guardian spirit or regeneration? I like them more than faith at this stage.
