YAVP: DrCj with autotraining

Ok, I am trying to see how good autotraining is.
Here is what I had at XL 2, stealth is not that bad keeping in mind that I almost died to 3 monsters fighting them one on one.

XL4, I am wearing amulet of harm :(
You can see the trend in autotraining: less Dodging, less Conjurations, more Spellcasting. Exactly what I need IMHO.
I forgot about other spells and reached XL 4 with just magic dart :)

Ok, I was wrong, autotraining is bad. I am not attacked much due to careful play and it means my dodging training went down to 1% :(

No, everything is enabled. You can see pluses on unarmed combat, evocations, hexes in those screens. They are just not trained because I don't cast hexes, dont melee without weapon and don't use wands.

Yes, it does, I barely use anything except spells. I like spellcasting and I considered going Dith to take advantage of stealth, though "wasting" 3-10% XP on stealth is not a big deal IMHO.
Autotrainign does limit god choice because you cannot easily train Invo for Chei or Lugonu, for example.
I would go Kiku but decided to go my standard Vehumet way because of streak.

Edit. I am waiting for Vehumet's wizardry boost to take off harm amulet.

but seriously. almost half of your magic skill points are in spellcasting skill. that's insane!

looking at the autotraining code, it actually exercises spellcasting LESS when you cast multi-school spells than when you cast single-school ones...literally the exact opposite of what would make sense

Branching into other magic schools after learning Meph Cloud, Sticky Flame, Conjure Flame, Blink from 2 great books. Learned Ignite Poison from Vehumet. I didn't know amulet of harm can be fun... Though it took me a potion of brilliance and a potion of magic to kill Fannar, it just refused to die.

Ok, I cleared that teleporter area on D:7, even after Lair 3 it was not easy (Troll, found artefact amulet and ring but nothing too spectacular)
I found books with OOD, Iron Shot, Battlesphere, bought unknown rapier which happened to be quite good (the +10 rapier "Gufeab" {drain, Dex+4 SInv}), I have 2 sources of rC+ so I don't see any problems in the long run except I'm already bored with "victory dancing" where I try to cast just Air and Fire spells to train corresponding schools

Found staff of power, now I have 44 MP and don't need more spellcasting. Not sure how I can try to explain it to autotraining algorithm :)
So yes, autotraining is bad.
I am using fire spells mostly now, Air is no longer needed.

Vehumet gave me Conjure Ball Lightnings and no Bolt of Fire so I am training Air now, I haven't used Conjure Ball Lightning for several years so I am trying to have some fun. Fireball is at 1% so I don't need more fire.
Switched to rElec amulet for the spell, though Spirit Shield is not great for the character. I acquired +1 gloves of strength. My main problem is lack of MR. Finally Blink is at 3%.

Since you are using spells of eight different spell schools, don't you think that a high spellcasting skill might actually be useful to you? Even for your best spells that experience isn't exactly wasted.

Yes, I agree but it is actually the other way around, I am learning spells from all those magic schools because I have no control of skill training. With manual skilling I would just train Dodging/fighting/short blades instead of so many schools.

Also autotraining encourages stupid tactics, as you can see my fighting is no longer trained, that's because I am killing everything at range. I should melee some popcorn I guess...

But Tm. Tl and hexes are almost ignored by autotraining, which is probably as you want it.
BTW, I think of autotraining as not switiching the training to 'manual', but still using the option to either switch off a skill, or focus it. With this conduct, you'd probably get quite close to what you want.

If you turn off all skills except one, there is no different between autotraining and manual training.
I have just amnesiad Dazzling Spray so I can no longer train Hexes, I am lucky to find many area of effect spells so I don't need Dazzling Spray now. I casted Blink just several times (to avoid Dire elephants in water in Lair 6 ending), most spell failure improvement went from spellcasting and Int.

Also abandoned Orc 2 because of Rupert who has 27% chance to paralyze/confuse me despite I am wearing hat of pondering (thanks, Gastronok).

Finally at XL 17 I removed penalty for buckler :)
Learned Freezing Cloud from Vehumet (at 2% with 0 in Ice Magic :)).
Learning Meph Cloud, Ignite Poison, Dazzling Spray was a mistake, I haven't cast the first 2 even once.
Allied hydra is fun especially when you have Bolt of Draining.

XL 21, got 2 runes, currently in V:3 and my fighting is just 6.3 :(
Both Death Channel and OOD are at 1%, wizlab was nice to give me cloak of starlight and cloak of MR+.
Autotraining really wants me to go for level 9 spells I guess except I would need to learn and use just Airstrike, otherwise Conj is trained more than Air.

Found bloodbane, decided to use it for training long blades and fighting. After a single fight my Long Blades get 39% of XP.
Though it was very dangerous, I had to use Conjure Lightning Balls to survive a simple pack of ogres.

Reached XL 27 on Depths:5. Quaffing potion of experience is not great in autotraining mode, it gave me 1 skill in Throwing and Transmutations.
Depths:1 was extremely hard, I overestimated my defenses and burned about 2 scrolls of blinking, 3 teleportation and 2 heal wounds. The problems forced me to switch to cloak of starlight for better defense so I had just MR++ on Depths:1-4.
Then I found a ring of MR++ so now everything is good except I have Gr-like HP: 199 and my demon blade is still far from min delay.
I keep forgetting to cast Ozo Armour :(

To make those level 9 castable, I would need to play in a very special way, like casting nothing but Airstrike for Tornado and even then it will take very much time because spellcasting still takes 45% XP for me :(
I found Necronomicon on V:5 so now I need to amnesia some spells to make room for Borg. Now sure which spells :(
Something is wrong with luck when you drop the ring of Durcho Cosh {rElec Dex+4 Slay+4} as useless and have a scroll of acquirement in inventory just hoping to find another scroll of acquirement and enter Trove for fun. Seriously, I have everything I need and even more.
V:5 was a cake walk.

I have just reached level 27 in spellcasting and no, it does not help at all. Now I have Conjurations with 43% XP and Necromancy with 37%... fighting is still 8.5.

Zot 5 was stupid. Both corridors were blocked by Zot traps, one of them had a teleportation trap adjacent from outer side so I tried to lure monsters. Unfortunately there was a Zot trap in view so eventually I had to switch to another corridor.
Now I better see why new mutations systems is worse than old one, this is what I got while clearing mutations from orbs of fire:

My conclusion about autottraining is that it really encourages true hybrids who still melee with weapons even when they have full MP and Vehumet. Fighting 9.0 is my record, I've never had it so low on winners, Demon Blade is not a fast weapon, as you can see I failed to reach min delay :)

Edit. Oh, and player ghosts are extremely bad. It is not right when you kill a ghost on zot 4 with 177 HP and plenty of AC/EV with 4 casts of dispel undead.
