CIP FeBe Book of the Warp?

Hi,
I'm currently playing a FeBe for the first time, and it's going all right, cleared Lair and while in the Mines, I found a book of the Warp. Given Fe's absurd aptitude for Translocation and how incredibly useful those spells are (esp. CBlink, Dispersal and Disjunction), and seeing as I'm still rather early in the game, could it be worth it to abandon Trog, get Oka/Zin/TSO and hope for Statue Form? Or would the benefit/risk ratio be too low?

Re: CIP FeBe Book of the Warp?

Switching from Trog would be suboptimal even if you already had all the other books in the game.

I wonder why you started as a berserker in the first place. Any random spellbook comes to view, and you immediately want to leave Trog? :D

Re: CIP FeBe Book of the Warp?

Although felids benefit from a variety of spells, switching from Trog is just too likely to kill your character.

And I'd train some stealth, because felids are good stabbers and being stealthy would allow you to get sleep stabs (aka free kills), and it'd also have great synergy with hex wands, especially the paralysis wand you already have. I'd also use the next ?id scroll on it to conserve charges.

Re: CIP FeBe Book of the Warp?

Sorry for your loss.

If you want to give felid another go, and like spells, I'd recommend FeEn. Being a stealthy enchanter plays to felids' strengths and I find hex-stabbing to be my most successful playstyle as a cat. I definitely find it easier than a FeBe.

I'll give it a go this evening then. What god would you recommend? Instinctively, I'd go for Dith or Sif?

Dith definitely helps as a stabber, but Sif I have little experience with. I've won cats with Ash and Oka and I find them both useful, but the latter definitely gives more melee power against foes that can't be hexed.

Kiku/yred/ru/mak/fedhas/gozag. Panic button strong, none of my cat wins actually relied on the cat.

Just as a general comment, Trog wrath is more likely to kill you earlier in the game because your character is weaker and you have fewer consumables available.

It is similarly true that gods are more important earlier in the game, because you have fewer options. Some powers, like Berserk are very strong.

So you're better off switching later, when your character is strong, has plenty of consumables and can live for a while without god powers.

Getting Zin piety up is easy, it just takes money, so there's no rush. Similarly getting TSO piety up is easy, as long as there are lots of undead/demons around. Crypt is a pretty good place for that. I wouldn't switch to Oka. There are better choices.

Re: CIP FeBe Book of the Warp?

Trog's wrath is fairly easy to survive when you have controlled blink, but despite a good aptitude I don't think you're going to get Cblink online before the first couple of summon swarms drop on your head. I wouldn't consider abandoning Trog on a Felid (or anyone really) until at least depths - you should be level 20 or higher to have a chance of surviving. The stronger you are, the better. Abandoning at level 10-15 is almost certain death.
