EDIT: got a different run now, thread was originally about a MiFi^Trog, which died in Pan.
DUPZ attempt #3, attempt #2 with oka somehow got killed by saint roka because he kept getting blinked away by his own distortion axe and kept getting smited. This time I chose Chei, and I've nearly cleared depths, and again it's time to do pan. I haven't done extended with Chei, so how painful is it out of 10? I only chose him because he was on d:1 and could give my char a sufficient power boost in the long run.

Welp, I splatted in Pan after facing Trog wrath + tormenters with 0 tele or blink scrolls. Everytime, I switch gods the wrath always fucks me over at the wrong exact time. Same thing happened with a similiar character that went Oka -> TSO.

Uh yeah, Trog -> TSO is usually done right when you're about to enter Crypt for a relatively safe place to take on the Trog wrath. A challenge run that has been burning your consumables changes the situation.

MiBe does not require a switch to TSO in extended. You were given bad advice. A MiBe is typically using Trog's Hand and berserk liberally b/c you won't lose piety fast enough against large packs. Really, you'll only have a bad time against a Boss's poison or unavoidable damage attacks. And for that Trog gave you the anti-magic brand and berserk.

Edited OP, since my new run is basically the same , except with Chei instead of Trog, and it still is trying to accomplish the same conduct run.

Sure, go for it.

I see a note about a possible fog cloak (Cloak of the Thief). That would be great for Pan with Chei (if you remember to use it).

Spells are good. Try some: Regeneration, Repel Missiles, etc.

Utility spells are cheap on Chei, translocations are your friend.

Evo is always value.

Throwing is huge value on Chei. Pick up a blowgun and some javalins.

Spam Chei powers constantly.

I have 15 runed chei a few times, but that was using necro/statue form. Statue form alone is enough to make Chei doable just fine for 15, but necro is nice for the mutations.

You can do it without either transmutation just use silence for tombs (not pand its no use on demons). For hell/pand you can do it ok with rn+++ as long as you are strong/have an answer for being slow (ranged, transloc etc.)

I guess for Mi leveraging spells especially in GDA is kind of hard even with Chei +15 int. Pure fighter chei is not that great IMO, you really want to leverage at least some utility spells. As a mostly fighter chei you should definitely do a ranged skill probably throwing if you have the ammo for it.

Cloak of the Thief fog is absolutely amazing for Chei, if you can get it do so, wear it all the time and get its evocation to 10% or less. Darkness + lesser beckoning is also nice for chei as this allows you to pull basically anything to melee range, however not sure if a MiFi in GDA can really pull off darkness, but less beckoning should be maybe possible.

If the only restriction is that you have to do dungeon>depths>pan, I'd suggest trying a statue/unarmed build, to resist torment. You're going to be under leveled and can use all the buffs you can get. Getting it going will be tough but you should have enough experience if you fully clear depths, and it'll give you more of a fighting shot in Pan.

My only statue former wins have been draconian and naga, which species, in your opinion, is the best suited for a statue build? I've seen someone do DUPZ with a statue felid^chei but that's a little out of my skillset :D

This is rough and off the top of my head, but basically:

Best: Troll, vine stalker, Ogre, felid* or octopode*

*Meaning if you can survive the early game, then it's best. Tougher at first.

Good: minotaur, Centaur, merfolk, Formicid, hill orc, demonspawn

Average: Human, halfling

Conflicts with innate AC mutation: Naga, draconian

Don't do this: Spriggan, deep elf, tengu, kobold. Anything that can't use statue form, including vampire/gargoyle.

You could possibly move ogre down to good or humans up to good, but more or less this is about it. If you aren't tied to minotaur, I'd probably recommend either troll or VS for the raw power level. Octopodes are fun once you have statue form + 8 rings, but can be hell before that.

Alright, guess I'll do a couple VS or Tr runs, the biggest problem so far with DUPZ has been low MR but I guess I'll skip Mnoleg's realm this time so I don't get chain-confused by golden eyes and go beat on cerebov or something.

If MR is the biggest hurdle you're facing, VS get 5 per level naturally - you can be immune to golden eyes with one MR item (and have a decent, but not great chance to resist with none).

The kings of MR per level are deep dwarf, which is possible to do with chei through the normal game, but I'm not sure how you'd get through pan unless you switched to a healing god. I left DD off the list above since it's just kind of far out there; definitely strong though.

Is chei a requirement? If not, I've found spriggan to be a surprisingly awesome choice for statue form, paired with Ash rather than chei though. Ash lets you overcome their mediocre Earth skill easily and bootstrap statue form pretty quickly. And you can start out with a typical stealth / shortblade build and use Ash to move your skills over in short order when you're ready (and/or use petrification + stabbing in between).
The real advantage isn't statue form so much though, as LRD, combined with spriggan speed, ash scrying and apportation. Those 4 will let you ninja every single pan and hell rune, except maybe demonic.
Here's a recent run with just that theme I did. It was really enjoyable and felt like a natural niche for spriggans.

Welp, just did a decent Chei Troll run, it had such good RNG(statue,wizardry,dragon scales,1 billion blink and tele scrolls) but died because I quaff ID'ed berserk in depths instead of just using my numerous tele scrolls to get away.

I think I'll need to do something non-chei for a bit, because that was a frustrating death. What do people think of HO^Nemelex and just spamming summon decks?
