That's a surprising death of a really experienced player:

  Code:
214  <playername> the Skirmisher (level 5, 29/29 HPs)
Began as a Vine Stalker Wanderer on Dec 17, 2016.
             Starved to death
             ... while paralysed
... on level 7 of the Dungeon.
The game lasted 00:09:41 (1243 turns).

I didn't see the game so I don't know if the player had any chance to deal with the hungry ghost. (At least there was an unid' potion of agility in his backpack.)

  Code:
  1202 | D:7      | Noticed a hungry ghost
  1238 | D:7      | Paralysed by fainting for 8 turns
  1243 | D:7      | Starved to death

Hungry ghosts are speed 10, aren't they?
So just pillar dance could be enough

The wanderer started with a +2 mace and the player tried to kill the hungry ghost:

  Code:
You hit the hungry ghost but do no damage.
The hungry ghost is heavily damaged.
You lose consciousness!
The hungry ghost hits you. You feel slightly more hungry.
The hungry ghost hits you. You feel slightly more hungry.
The hungry ghost hits you. You feel slightly more hungry.
The hungry ghost hits you. x2
You have starved to death.
You die...

Sounds like a tabbing accident to me.

Speedrunning, the ghost was blocking the passage.

I was speedrunning indeed, I had only two food items in my backpack, the explored part of the level was a series of very long corridors with upstairs at the end that wouldn't help Me to disengage with this thing. Yeah, that agility might have saved the character though.
But it was just simpler to start over.
