[CiP] DsIE and why I love so much this game

So, I started another DsIE. My idea was to go and blast everything with ice, eventually ending up with ice cloud and this kind of stuff (I always die pretty early so this was my endgame strategy ^^).
Then the game took over.
At D:4 I've found a randart +7 plate armour.
At D:5 I've found a +10 glaive with chop and Str+5
What is RNG trying to tell me?
Shall I move to melee?
I'm tempted to go Ash and curse the glaive and go on with it, putting all the level up to STR, what do you think?

This is morgue:

Re: [CiP] DsIE and why I love so much this game

I would go light-armour melee/summoner from there. Get enough Summoning that Ice Beasts is reliable (read: get your ticket to clearing Lair) then learn how to swing that glaive. Not sure on going Ash just to get a skill boost - that's your "I want to rush to wielding this cool toy" instinct talking. Pick a god who will help you survive and you'll naturally get the EXP to swing that glaive, wear that plate and still cast spells.

Re: [CiP] DsIE and why I love so much this game

It is a very good idea to pick Ash with strong characters who do not need immediate help, they will become ridiculously powerful later.
I don't think IE needs summons from gods like Fedhas or Makhleb, especially Ds with demonic guardian. Trog is not an option so what gods are we missing, Sif Muna, Ru and Okawaru?
Ash is also very good for IE because IE needs to train many skills at once and is a natural hybrid.
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

Amazing Loot: the secret weapon the game has to get you killed, or at least to make you feel really bad when you die.

Once, Trog gave my DsBe a +11 triple sword {speed, rElec} in Lair.

Twenty minutes later I died to Sonya on D:13. She had a distortion weapon and I stupidly tried to tab her. To this day I occasionally roll up DsBes hoping for a drop that good, to see what the game might've been like.

tabbing with polearm has costed me a good character. don't forget to close to melee range first

Re: [CiP] DsIE and why I love so much this game

If you go light/medium with that polearm and use spectral weapon you will do ALOT of damage. Spectral + polearm is very usable do to reaching. An aspect to keep in mind your spectral weapon is quite accurate, even if you miss alot it can hit early on and you can actually melee very hard with just a normal halberd with low skills (beware your attack speed though)

Re: [CiP] DsIE and why I love so much this game

It's a game full of sadness, after all.
Looks like actual life.
Maybe that's the reason we love it so much.
Life is frail.
Resistance is futile.
