Early TSO is hard. You'll suffer lack of piety throughout the game until 4 runes.

Pray for an ossuary. I have found early TSO to be ok because summon divine warrior is really strong, you just have to use it very sparingly because piety is scares. The Halo should help though.

P.S. Axes and shields is normaly a bad isea. I would ditch the shield and just go for a battleaxe.

Once I find a battle-axe that isn't cursed and -1, I'll do that. I found a neat +8 chain mail to replace the -MR deathtrap.
