Don't ask about the weird combo, GrAs was random, and Zin is a god I never play and wanted to know better...

First of all, am I doing with right with Zin use ?

I feel like Recite is kinda weak maybe it requires more Invocations skill ? How much do you usually train with Zin ?

I'll buy cloak of Thief as soon as I have the 700$ required.

Edit : for the first time in ages, I have food issues... Not intelligent corpses butchering + recite makes me hungry... I know I play too slowly... 60k turns isn't nice at this point of the game :p
Edit2 : No way to get a TLA with Zin ? I can't butcher at all troll corpses, the UI doesn't allow me to sin :p

Any advice appreciated about the current character...

Note : I entered the new Desolation vault but felt too weak for it... Didn't try too hard since I kinda want to win this char :D

With Zin I usually go for 27 invo. But I use him only in extended.

Recite does not cost any hunger (unless it was changed in trunk). I spam it in every battle, often immediately applying it again after getting "you get your breath back" which triggers "more" for me.
Stealth + Recite don't combine well, I would put all that Stealth XP into Invo.

Edit. Also you can stop training Shields and get long sword to min delay.
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

Recite more, and get more Invo. In some parts of the game, like tomb, using vitalisation a lot is also good.

You could still get a TLA from a shop I guess.

I'd also stop training stealth, but would still go for getting invisibility.

A +6 long sword of slicing isn't very good. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to hit stuff a lot to kill it. I'd go with any decent branded great sword instead for now. And train more swords too!

Yeah, put as much XP into Invocations as you can afford and spam Recite. You also want Sanctuary reliable, which should be close. Vitalization might be less useful to a Gargoyle, since you have poison and rot immunity, but it's still a good boost.

The double sword should be the best weapon soon if not already. It's your endgame weapon. Dump all your ?ew into it. Consider rebranding it.

Use your ?ea on the gloves.

I think I'd stop training Stealth for a while.

16 Throwing is mindelay for javelins, which you don't have (Shoals?): definitely stop training Throwing. Don't forget that high throwing (16 is plenty, maybe 20 for extended) makes needles amazing---and they work on demons, including HellPanLords!---not undead, though. Enchant the blowgun after the double sword.

No more Shields until you're ready for a regular shield.

No Armour? 7ish should give +2 AC and a small boost to EV and spell success.

So, I think I'd train only LB to 16; then only Armour to 7ish; then Fighting, Dodging, and Invocations for the rest of the game, with a short detour for 16 Throwing; Shields if you find a good regular shield; Armour to 10--14 if you stay in ring mail, more if you change to heavier armour; and some spell skills.

This guy is strong. Don't forget Gargoyle's low HP (Sanctuary!) and go win!

In trunk, double swords do the same damage as great swords with less skill, higher accuracy, and allow a shield. Generally, double swords are better, but a great sword with a better brand might be an improvement over the double sword of holy wrath.

Quick updtae, I really feel more powerful right now ! I found awesome boots (+2, Inv, MR) that make most of the game cheesecake (+Gr of course), but do not help my foo issues :p

I just got enough gold to get this Thief cloak, it'll be the next improvement. With the new amulet I found in Elf, FDA seems to be the best suited armour for me... Hope I'll find a hide soon (or a bazaar ;) )

Quick update, with a gear question.

I should probably be using this :

especially because I already have a reflection shield.Is it a good idea to change my body armour ?

I have the Moon TLA, but no rF swap, or I can enchant a FDhide somewhere, I have a bunch (10 ?) of ?EA... I'd lose the rC and have no swap, but it's probably the best idea... Then I don't know what to do next : Zot should be easy (+Inv and enough resists). I'm always scared about Vaults:5. I could consider Abyss and then some extended...

Faith is really strong, especially on Zin. On the other hand rF+++ and rC+++ turn many moderate threats into jokes. Your defences are very good, but you could do with a bit more health.

You don't really have to be afraid of anything right now, perhaps except paralysis in a bad spot. Anytime you feel remotely threatened, just sanctuary. When your piety drops too far, donate gold to Zin. Repeat.

If you are mainly concerned with winning then just grab the orb now. Otherwise I might start with V:5, then Crypt/Tomb.

I'd try to get at least apportation, swiftness and RMsl castable. Shouldn't take too much XP in ringmail with 17 Int. For extended I would probably get a bit more fighting, then get haste castable. You don't really need anything else. For a Gr, getting LRD/passwall can be good for ninjaing runes!

I think that would mean it can't be recited to(at least, I think that you can always try to affect things with recite even if their HD is high enough that your chances are bad, as long as they fall into one of the categories of things vulnerable to recite), but I may be wrong.

I think you should be able to recite OOF, they have human intelligence. If there's nothing around that can be recited you get another message, "there is no audience" or something like that.

Some stuff about recite:

According to the code
  Code:
    // Resistance is now based on HD.

x is linked to skill, max 30, at 27 skill invocations.
y is linked to piety, max 30, at 200 piety.

At 22.7 invo, and 6*(160-200), you have between 24.5 and 28 power.

The description compares HD against power.
  Code:
If   (HD - power >= 0),  is too strong...
Else (HD - power >= -5), may be too strong...
Else (HD - power < 5),   is weak enough...


Now the problem is that at full power HD - power = 0. So that should return 'too strong', even though the code comment says up to 30 HD can be affected. But that's just the description.

If I read the code correctly, monster resistance is HD + 1D6 - 1. If power is at least equal then recite works. So for an OoF you have a 1/6 chance at maximum power.

Those are not exactly reliable odds, especially because you can't really know you've got 200 piety.

Any corrections are welcome!

Thanks for this great explanation ! I feel like Recite needs a LOT of Invocations to be good, but becomes finally VERY powerful (salt statues, paralyze, ...).

I finally got 2 more runes and went for a win. This Gr had really all needed for extended (I love needle-stab in extended), but I lost two 15-runers recently in the Orbrun and already spent too much time on this character. Here's the dump !

You are not allowed to recite if all monsters have too high HD to be affected with your current Invocation/piety.
