Not sure why I survived, I was using +0 robe and dagger of draining with much XP in M&F. That phantasmal warrior was immune to draining so I had to melee it with +5 rapier of protection which I acquired. On the way back I found +3 demon blade of electro. Crazy game.

So devs are saying that Orc Sorcerer is fine because you are supposed to fight it alone? Ok, I was fighting it alone, initiated a fight when it was adjacent and still died from full HP. Also yes, I was wearing all MR items I could find i.e. zero.
My defenses were AC 21/ EV 28, quite respectable for Orc 2.

pure melee is not viable for clearing every level in order

if you want to kill orc sorcerers safely when you first encounter them, you often need to use either items, ranged attacks, or both

Ok, so what you suggest specifically? You can assume that Orc Sorcerer will paralyze me for 7 turns, then summons Sixir-whatever, then casts bolt of draining or bolt of fire every turn depending on my resists. Both bolts have range 6.
I have no MR, rElec and can have either rF+ or rC+. I am actually "lucky" that I died on 5th turn only.

That was last monster in vault with 4 shops where I hoped to get MR item... Should I have gone to D13 where Ogre Magi have more HP and higher chance to paralyze me? Or to Swamp/Snake where Rupert, Norris, Louis can spawn? Those monsters may kill me too :)

So you are suggesting to use scroll of blinking at full HP vs almost dead monster who has 20-42 full HP and does not have banishment...

Actually I am playing DsGl of Qazlal at the moment and it didn't die in Orc despite it had the same MR. That's because Qazlal rules, I used upheaval to kill those orc sorcerers. Dith is a pretty bad god when you don't have MR.

no, i'm suggesting using teleport too. you're following dith, and you're wearing a robe (for some reason) so there was no reason to actually kill the orc sorceror

i mean ignoring the fact that the orc sorceror summoned a sixfirhy there's a bunch of additional things you did that are baffling

This is becoming ridiculous. Chokepoint vs a single monster who I tried to stab? Do you know how stabbing works? The longer you stay in view of a monster, the more likely you are to be noticed. I was incredibly stealthy (uncannily stealthy with that dagger, maxed stealth at Orc 2, can you believe it?) and Orc Sorcerer has just HD 9, I killed last monster near it and it didn't notice, then I moved adjacent and tried to stab it too. My main method of killing things was via stabs, the demon blade was used when I got noticed. Do you think AC 21/EV 28 is bad? Do you realize that +10 Str on the robe was like +5 slaying for demon blade and Dex+4 increased my stabs and improved my stealth and EV? Also regen+ and *contam, there was no reason to remove that robe unless I find some really great body armour. You should try playing characters in light armour, they work too. Play Spriggan or Kobold, learn something new. Also run fsim for demon blade vs arcblade with my skills, get surprised. That's even without considering noise from static discharge.

Edit. It looks like fsim does not work for arc blade :(

Given that the arc blade does have rElec, it probably would have helped. Still since the sorc could have summoned a sun demon instead, so that's not as important. My experience has been that arc blade is a completely bonkers weapon (including on SpEn, the noise is not a problem) so it might also have killed it in time.

When you get paralyzed at a distance, you have more time to survive since the monster will use turns moving towards you, summons won't be in range, etc. So having some evo and wands or such would probably be best when you can't sleep-stab.

When you are in melee with a paralyzer and a sixfirhy with no rElec, you need to consider it an emergency at that point. Swap to arc blade, quaff agility, tele, whatever.

And because it seems you want this said: I do believe it is possible that fighting the sorcerors is the best gamble, and that you can be killed with no recourse. But it is clear you did not minimize chances of that death.

Really? What would you tell if I swapped to Arcblade, got paralyzed and died to Summon Demon or just bolts of fire? I remind you it was an almost dead Orc Sorcerer, I have 69% accuracy, can attack it every 0.6 turn and deal 15 damage with every attack on average.
You can read the log and see that I attacked almost dead Sorcerer TWICE before Sixfirhy OR Sorcerer could attack me:

It's simple math for me: if you can be paralyzed with 46% chance and there are 9 such monsters in most safe place you can be in, something is wrong with game design.

Edit. So I had like 15-20% (hard to estimate precisely because of no damage attacks) to NOT kill the sorcerer in those 2 attacks while I had 46% to be paralyzed (and paralysis does not even mean death here provided it can be short and I was at 100% HP). Obviously using scroll of blinking would be stupid provided I had only 2 scrolls and the monster was almost dead and I have already killed 8 orc sorcerers (without blinking ever) before. There are no enough scrolls of blinking to reset fight every time I see almost dead orc sorcerer.

Maybe fsim works for Arc blade, I am not sure. But anyway it has similar accuracy and wiki claims "Casts Static Discharge centered on the target on one of every three melee hits".

So that fsim is showing 2x damage, without even having mindelay (which would not have been difficult to get, or get close to, from the rest of lair after finding it)? That would have done it easily.

Thinking about this more, I think you also needed to give up the amazing robe for a while and at least check all the ego leather/robe/ring for MR before doing orc 2. I probably wouldn't have done so either, at least hoping for orc shops first :|.

The demon blade had electro ego so going for min delay with that arcblade would be a mistake IMHO. I mean if the monster is not resistant to electro, I will kill it with demon blade easily. And if the monster is immune/resistant to electro, then arcblade is a bad weapon so demon blade was optimal because no monster is immune to fast weapon with high base damage.
I did underestimate the arcblade, but it does not change my opinion about orc sorcerers being very bad monsters. I used better than average weapon and still died, we can't assume players will find arcblade or MR items in every game.

Edit. The check for MR body armour is a gamble, my next character didn't find any despite I checked literally every body armour before Orc.

This char is a high risk char.

It can kill things fast (and well) but if things go wrong and it becomes paralyzed (or similiar things happen) your non-ac defences disappear and your ac was next to non-existant.
A Tank with high ac might have survived.
Your char went from excellent to trash in almost no time and you knew about the risk - you did build this char.

Checked your morgue. It seems like you also didn't have the tools to dig a killing hole (wands of digging/disint) where getting paralyzed would have been much less dangerous. I dig those holes against the high end orcs because I fear going there with low mr-chars.
If I have none of these tools I remain on the stairs, use my ranged weapons/summons/whatever (even if they do less damage than my melee) and get out when 1 of them starts to summon stuff and might attack my MR.
Had too many situations where situations can get out of control if one of them starts to summon stuff.

Ok, Orbs of Fire would be fine in Orc 2 too. I mean, I would die too.

I lost a character in extended in kill hole vs a popcorn because it was a raged Demonspawn with vampiric weapon and my scroll of blinking was useless. I can imagine dying to Orc Sorcerer too.
